26th May

We went to the Cemetery today.  Someone had posted a photograph on Social Media of the little church when it was built - it is the temple of St George and I don't know how long ago it was erected - it may say on the plaque which is on the left of the front door but when it was the cemetery was much less occupied than it is today.

I wanted to go and water Dad's plants and to try and stand in the same place and take a photograph to show what the place looks like now.

Dad's plot is in the front row (for the time being) and has the rounded headstone next to the two dark brown memorials.

The cemetery in Droushia is large - only a small proportion of it is currently occupied and in the time that we have been living here there are generally only a few burials each year which was why we were gobsmacked that on the day of David's burial there was a second one for a Cypriot man directly afterwards.

Everything was fine with Dad's flowers but I will go up again in a couple of days to water again if it remains hot like it is.  Sadly all the flowers on David's grave have gone on but I have told Isobel I will leave them there - there may be a card or something she wishes to keep amongst them.

We ventured down into the village to check the post.  You cannot walk up from the Cemetery at the moment - it is completely blocked off.  We are hoping this means that they are about to start cobbling that area - whilst there John asked when Finnikas plans to reopen.  We know from Andri that they have been doing some painting there - it seems like it will be sometime later this week - great news!!

We had more gardening that we wanted to do this afternoon.  The cats seem to appreciate the work I have done to the steamers so Charlie and Boris were making the most of the shade.  The passion flower has covered quite a bit of the mesh we put on the gazebo and shortly it will give some fabulous dappled shade.

The focus of our attention was the hedge that hides our 'glory hole' which got a severe pruning earlier in the year - so much so that it looked bald but it is amazing how it grows back and greens up.  To ensure that the shingle was filled with leaves we actually had the sense to put down a dust sheet and then John got to work with our ancient and dodgy hedge trimmer which made short work of the hedge and we managed to clean up pretty quickly afterwards.

I managed to grab half an hour to do a bit of art this evening.  This week's challenge is 'Footwear' so I am having a play at drawing some shoes.

Whilst doing that John put his feet up and sampled some beer I had spotted on offer in Paps - It is called Hop Riders Session IPA and he only bought a couple because he was unsure about them but declared that it was a very palatable brew and I think it was only 60-odd cents a can so that was a bit of a result.
