30th May

This morning was a considerably warmer start to the day than we might have expected after the very cool evening we had yesterday.

In fact first thing we had a call from Nicky and Mark (who were coming up to inspect their property) to ask whether it was shorts weather and I went outside to confirm that indeed it was.

As we haven't seen them for ages we suggested that as they were coming up they might like to share a takeaway with us this evening and stay the night if they wanted.  Nicky was keen to sleep at theirs but I made the spare bed up just in case they felt it might be a bit more comfortable with us.

We were being nice neighbours today and had decided we should cut back the plants at the front of 10A because it was like a wilderness and access to the front door was being limited.  We just set about the plants with the hedge trimmer which managed most of it but in some places the lavender had got really thick and woody.  At least now if Gregoris and Dora do come they can at least make it to the door.  Sadly the inside is in need of some TLC but they have been unable to come for quite some time for one reason or another and it has been shut up - although we do try and air it now and again.

After Nicky and Mark had finished the work they had planned on their house they came across and we decided to take a walk around the village and finish at Finnikas where hopefully the garden would be open so we could have a drink.  We retraced our steps from earlier this week as we knew this was a route they were unlikely to have taken previously and we knew where the problems with the roadworks were going to be.

We have never taken them to Palates so we walked up by to show them where it was located and whilst there we were collared by Sylvia who was getting it ready to open to visitors in the near future.  She was keen to show it off and I have to say it certainly looked very neat and tidy.  It certainly has a fabulous view across to Chrysochous Bay.

It was good to see that there were actually workers working on the road.  In fact I saw about 10 people today involved in the project.  When it is finished it really will be pretty spectacular but the progress seems to be so very slow - we are still no clearer as to when this might be.

Finnikas was indeed open and they were being quite serious about adhering to the rules and regulations.   There was sanitiser as we walked in and Philippos and Marios were busy measuring the spaces between the tables.  Marina and Philippos had their Covid-19 masks and only stopped briefly at the table for me to be able to take a photograph.  We spent a very pleasant couple of hours in the garden having a few drinks and devouring the fabulous dishes of dried goats cheese which Philippos brought for us to sample.

It is so good to have this place back up and functioning again albeit with the limitations imposed by the current situation.
