Today started with a quiet morning before John went off to get his crown fitted. He had had to cancel the previous appointment because of his throat infection and in the interim he has had some pain and sensitivity from the poorly tooth so he was ready to get it sorted, although he doesn't ever relish going to the dentists he has been ok with Perfect Smile in Peyia. When they did the preparation work he chose not to have anaesthetic and that was the case again today. He said everything was ok until the dentist cleaned the tooth with some fluid before fitting the crown and that fluid stung like buggery and John nearly hit the ceiling!!
Whilst he was away I got out the remainder of my paints and knocked up an entry for this week's challenge which is "movement". I consulted the internet for some ideas and inspiration and found a picture similar to the one which I eventually produced. The original is much more elegant that mine - which looks a bit like Cruela de Vil but it is at least another entry for people to judge although two or three which have come in already are absolutely outstanding.
There are noticeably less entries than during the height of the lockdown which is to be expected and so I am thinking that shortly we may just have to draw a line under this bit of fun. It is very satisfying to know how much people have enjoyed applying themselves to something new every week and maybe rekindling a talent which they had left dormant for many years.
All the regular contributors feel like personal friends - many of them are stretching back to my school days - this is one of the occasions when social media has done a really good job.
I am now busy trying to think of a theme for next week which might spark some enthusiasm!!
On his return from the dentists John took time out to speak to his mum. Fortunately without having had any numbing drugs he was able to do so without dribbling.
Whilst he was speaking to her I had a phonecall from Akis the delivery company. We had ordered some beers from a company in Nicosia and they were to be delivered to our house but for some reason they had gone on a bit of a circuitous trip via Limassol and then sort of disappeared. The suppliers guaranteed us that our parcel would be delivered to our door even though Akis said they couldn't or wouldn't do that. Anyway I had a very nice man ring me from the Droushia Heights Hotel and ask me to talk him in to our address which I did and he came bearing gifts of Real Ale and John was over the moon. Recently it has become high on impossible to get regular supplies of Ale through the supermarkets like we used to so it was great to find this outlet selling at good prices and offering delivery. When the parcel went walkabouts I thought we had been stitched up but to be fair the supplier answered our queries immediately and even tracked the package down himself.

I have to thank Nicky for tracking down some Elderflower Cordial and I have to thank the Bobster and Di for the Bubbles for Gin poppers which they gave us some time ago and which have been sitting in the cupboard waiting to be used.
On the side of the box is a recipe for a gin based drink which needs elderflower cordial. The recipe looked lovely and I have been struggling to think of a nice long drink to have on these hot evenings so when Nicky and Mark were down in Paphos today they tracked some cordial down in Olivers Deli and brought it for me. The resulting drink is refreshing and crisp and made a welcome change - basically gin, elderflower cordial, lemon juice, spring of mint and soda water and - having done a little more research - could also have some slices of cucumber which sounded nice. That will be my drink of choice for a while or as long as the cordial lasts!!!
Our supper this evening was steak and salad (no potatoes). We had been to Paps and bought a slab of fillet steak which cost 18 euros and will do us twice with a nice thick steak apiece.
I managed to get the steak cooked to perfection this evening by taking it out of the pan slightly under and letting it rest so that it was pink and juicy when served. Fortunately I had some left over mustard sauce so that rounded it off very nicely.
Second night on the new mattress - it is taking me a while to get used to the firmness after our old one being so soggy!!!
