We are still in the grips of an extended heatwave. I am not sure I have experienced these temperatures day in and day out in Droushia before. The days are hot and the nights are hot - no cooling down, damp and condensation here for weeks which is most unusual and that, combined with getting used to the new mattress has meant I have found it difficult to sleep - add to that Charlie's demands for a midnight feast and two bites on my foot and you can see what I am having to contend with.
It is now August 1st and everyone is on holiday. The mass vacation exodus by the Cypriots is on and with coronavirus so many more people are staying on the island for a staycation. It is busier here on the estate with the tenants of 3a returning after an elongated enforced stay in the UK.
Mum is up tomorrow and I am desperately trying to think of something tasty and soft that she will manage with her current teeth/mouth situation. The only trouble is that a lot of the things we would eat she doesn't so I have scoured the internet and come up with a chicken, leek and bacon cottage pie combo. I shall poach the chicken and shred it and make sure it is soft and tender and I will do the mash with both potato and sweet potato to ring the changes. I hope it does the trick - personally I fancy diving into a vat of cold ice-cream face downwards.

Our friends Simon, Melanie and their girls Jasmine and Frances are up for the weekend and they must have been reading our minds when they suggested meeting up at Tsakkas Beach for some lunch. We do that with them a couple of times a year but never in August and we had totally forgotten that it just might be a bit busy.
When we arrived the car park was fit to burst and the beach and sunbeds was so packed we didn't stand a chance of locating where they were sitting so we took ourselves off to the taverna and plonked ourselves down at a table in the shade which could accommodate us all as we had noticed most tables were already reserved and those that were not were filling up quickly. Now we remembered why we don't venture to the coast in August!!!
We did eventually catch up with one another and John went off down to the sea to have a swim with them - I chose to stay up in the shade and secure our table. We had a nice lunch - there is nothing better really than being in the shade with fresh salad, fish, chips, halloumi and dips. Jasmine's 8th birthday is fast approaching and we remember the time that Melanie and Simon came to our house to let us know that Melanie was pregnant - boy that time has really flown!!! The two girls are very engaging and Jasmine is much less shy than she used to be - in fact we had quite a chat about the book she was reading as I remember it from my childhood and I was able to suggest a couple of others that she might enjoy - a job for Simon to find them on Kindle!
We returned home to do very little save get the pie ready for tomorrow and then nothing as it was the FA Cup final this evening and John had asked Mark if he wanted to watch in the Dojo. Nicky and I had planned a swim but the very hot weather had rendered the chemical levels in our pool out of kilter and so John had had to chuck some in to rectify the situation.
Nicky sauntered off home for an early night and I did a few bits and pieces and then joined the boys outside for the second half of the footie. It was much more pleasant outside - a really nice temperature which helped to cool me down a bit before calling it a night.
