Where is Lara?

Our spontaneous trip to Lara yesterday obviously started a trend because we had a phone call from Nicky this morning asking us for detailed instructions as to how to go across country from Droushia to Lara.

We pointed out that there are two bays, side by side, which are referred to as Lara.  The left hand one (if you are looking out to sea) is where we had been yesterday and has the ramshackle taverna on the hill and the newly erected beach bar and the right hand one is the horseshoe bay which has the turtle information hut and the long walk down from the carpark to the beach.

We gave them both written and verbal instructions to the left hand side bay which we thought were foolproof because there are a million little roads that lead you to the right hand bay so it is easy to get confused.

They did indeed find Lara Bay but not the one we had anticipated and not using our instructions as it seems they failed at the first hurdle - turning off before you got to the radars!!!

They didn't mind though, they had thoroughly enjoyed the journey of discovery and the fabulous bay at the end and they said that the sea was amazing and warm.

That bay is stunning but the sea there can sometimes be very rough - our friends Laura and Mark will remember the first year they came on holiday (2011) and for Mark's birthday we went on a grand Yiannis Tour which involved lunch at the Last Castle and then a scenic drive home back across the Akamas taking in Lara Bay and then racing the last bit so that we missed the thunder storm which followed us back up the mountains.

I don't know whether it was the impending storm but the sea at Lara that day was amazing with huge waves that went well over Mark's head and he is a tall fella!!  That was such a great day for his birthday and funnily enough Laura video called today because I had asked her to have a look for some Bridget Jones fat-arse pants for me and she happened to be in Primani.

Mum was coming for lunch today and I had got everything ready yesterday so had a fairly easy morning.  We were having pork tenderloin in a sauce with carrots and peas and roast potatoes and I was using my new combi-microwave for the first time to do the potatoes so it was a bit of trial and error.  We had decided to eat outside and I had done my first clean and look around the dining table to ensure we had no poo-makers up above and did not see any of the sweetcorn kernel sized poos so thought we were ok.  I hadn't banked on the fact that these caterpillars do not start out the size of John's thumb - they obviously have to grow to that size (by eating my vine) and the size of the poo they generate is equal to the size of their bottom!!!!  Mum spied some teeny tiny poo and after a quick look I spotted the teeny tiny caterpillar which was only about a couple of centimeters long.

Shortly afterwards I spotted a larger caterpillar and so I put the two together with plenty to eat away from the main part of the vine so that they could munch on without decimating our shade.  Lunch went ok but the potatoes were a bit of a challenge and I wasn't 100% happy with them but everything else was spot on and there was enough veg and pork in sauce for Mum to take home for tomorrow.
