Cheese!!

There is a welcome respite to the elevated temperatures we have been experiencing of late but it is still very warm during the day.  For John the football season starts in earnest today with The Mighty Blades playing Wolves this evening.  He had arranged to watch it with Les who is a Wolves fan.  I was glad that I did not have to go through the pain with him particularly as SUFC were two down in about the first six minutes!!!  Fortunately that was as bad as it got but that was bad enough as you can well imagine!!

For this week's art/photography challenge I have chosen Autumn leaves/fruits/vegetables (think Harvest Festival) and am hopeful that the entrants will be inspired.  I went on a bit of a wander to go and find a fig tree where the leaves are beginning to turn colour for one of my Photographic entries.  I generally enter something in both categories - photography is easy but the art more difficult so I am toying with the idea of using one of the big leaves, painting on top of it and then using it as a stamp or a stencil.

It is John's birthday tomorrow and Mum is coming up so any creativity will have to wait until Thursday - which just so happens to be Mark's birthday and so we are going into the village for a meze with him and Nicky and Di and Rob by way of celebration.  Fortunately Mark is beginning to feel a lot better as his arm is recovering - albeit slowly.  Bless him he actually managed to do ironing for Nicky today whilst she was down in Paphos sorting out some of the holiday properties which they look after.

Unusually it is going to be a busy week for us with Mum coming Wednesday to celebrate John's birthday and remember Dad's (who would have been 89 bless him), then Mark's birthday on Thursday and on Friday our lovely neighbours want to take us for a meal for John's birthday and we have agreed to go to Santa Barbara with them - they like it, we like it, the view is fabulous and the social distancing will be observed.

We did our shopping down in Paps today - Monday is not always a good day as there are often some gaps on the shelves after the weekend rush but we didn't want much so that was ok.  It was really quiet in there and for the first time in ages I didn't feel claustrophobic in my mask - either I am getting used to it or the cooler weather makes it feel less restrictive.  We call into the Cheese Factory in the village on the way home to get some halloumi for tomorrow as I am doing halloumi and chips for Mum as it is one of her favourites.  John decided to go in and ask Maria for what we wanted.  He wanted to ask for three pieces of slightly salted halloumi but used the word for slices 'fettes' so we ended up with three pieces of slightly salted halloumi and three small pieces of FETTA!!!   It's fine it will all get eaten!!!

It was clearly a day for cheese as we had one of our favourite meals for supper tonight - baked peppered brie with bacon and salad - it was probably the only highlight of what turned out to be a pretty miserable evening in the end!!!
