Goat-Gate...

Apparently we missed all the excitement last night being tucked away off the main road.  There was a partial herd of goats that had gone rogue and were lost!!!

This is a photograph Marky-Mark took of them either before they decided to run amok on his front garden or after - not sure which but by the amount of poo that was there and on the pavement the following morning they were having a whale of a time.

Initially I thought someone had shed a load of olives but then on closer inspection realised the error of my ways.

Not sure where these goats might have come from or where they were going to but they were clearly lost but must have been rounded up and rescued as there was no sign of them the following day save for the olive sized poo. I cannot believe we never heard a thing because this was early evening and we were sat out in the garden for quite some time.

So today is Sunday and Mum is coming up - I asked her what she wanted for lunch and she said she fancied ham, egg and chips so when we went shopping we looked for the nice ham that Paps sell but they didn't have any so we decided that we would go to the Gravity Road Diner as they have gammon on their menu.

The challenge for this week is Candles and I persuaded Mum to have a go - bless her she managed to take a shot aged 85 with a smartphone and What'sApp'd it to me.  Really she does very well with technology - I just wish the internet where she lives was more stable and then she wouldn't have to worry.

It really was the most glorious day when we set off down to the Diner.  Stephen and Tracy have worked really hard to put their stamp on the place and it is certainly a million miles removed from when it was the Karithea.

They now have a massive new sign which will make sure that no-one in the vicinity can miss them.  Stephen wants people to have their picture taken and asked us if he could take ours.  He has been working so hard that he said he hasn't had time to write a single word on his next novel or children's book but he shouldn't complain - it was a really risky time to open up a new business and so far it seems to be paying off.

Mum got her gammon, pineapple and chips (not egg) and said that, apart from it being on the large size, was one of the nicest, if not the nicest, she had eaten out over here which is great news.  John had ribs and I had scampi.  It was fine, not normal Sunday lunch fayre for us but nice for a change and really nice to see Mum enjoying her food - we even shared some apple pie and ice-cream for pud and she liked that too.

We decided to check out the swings before going home - I have a picture of Mum in the same spot taken about 7 years ago - these swings used to belong to Andy Savva - the man who gave me the fabulous bunch of grapes - it transpires that he is Harris's brother and Harris owns the Diner.  The swings were a long way down so it was a bit of a struggle to get Mum upright again!!!

We waited for the call from Mum to say she had got home safely and then decided to go up onto the roof terrace for a drink before it got dark.  We have started to think about Christmas and went to Mum's vets on Friday to see what they can do with regard to Fred.  We have given Mum the options and left her to book what she thinks will be a reasonable amount of time for her but not too long for Fred - particularly as we have no idea how old he is and it seems a shame for him to be shut up for too long - we made that mistake two years ago when he was in for over two weeks.  So much depends on what happens with regard to covid restrictions here as to whether any of our plans come to fruition but it does look like we might have a good Boxing Day pasty celebration.
