New Neighbours...

It has gone back to being very hot again - certainly much hotter here in Droushia than we would normal expect for this time of the year and it is such a shame that John's mum, Jackie and Stan are not here enjoying it because they should have been.

We have spent the last couple of days sorting out the wall where the ivy used to be.  I loved the ivy when it was there and when it was mealy-bug free but this year it succumbed and I was worried it would spread elsewhere and we would lose too much.  We took it down and toyed with several ideas including stone cladding but eventually settled on wood panels.

My job was staining - I don't know how but even wearing big thick gloves it still manages to seep through and my nails look shocking. Actually I could really do with some TLC at the moment.  We took the fan out of our bedroom when it got cooler and the ceiling one has developed a terrible squeak so haven't had it on the last couple of nights and I have felt like I was being boiled alive and had really disrupted sleep - on top of that Charlie is unwell. He has come home with a poorly paw like Boris and is feeling very sorry for himself - so much so that he wouldn't come for breakfast this morning which is most unusual.  I feel for the cats - there are so many changes here from what they were used to when they roamed around all the houses - most of which were empty.  Charlie doesn't understand that not everyone loves him.

A case in point was this afternoon when we called in to see Argy and Lakis to check on Kia's progress at the home in Prodromi and Charlie came too but decided he preferred the sunshine on the mat outside Galatia's house.

It was good to hear that Kia seems to have settled in really well and likes it.  With current restrictions she is only allowed two visitors twice a week and so on one of those occasions I will accompany Argy so that I can see her and see what the routine is at the home as we have said that, when Argy and Lakis return to the UK, we can call in on a day when we are going down to do our shopping.  I am going to have to pull my finger out with regard to the language as it would be so much nicer if we could converse with Kia beyond just hello, how are you?, it's hot today!!!

So far, so good and this has clearly come as some relief to Argy and Lakis who were able to spend the day with their friends down in Paphos without having to worry about Kia.  Mind you they nearly fainted at the cost of a day pass in the Olympic Lagoon hotel which is where their friends were staying.

As I said lots of changes to Lordos 1 including the arrival of Das and Belinda who have moved into 8b with their rescue dog Lindy.  We met Das and Belinda just before lockdown when they were over having decided to make Cyprus their permanent home. After that the world went mad in more ways than one.  They were able to return to the UK on one of the last flights before the airports closed and then were stuck waiting to be able to return.  They rescued Lindy from outside the Winery just before they had to return and she was kept at Stray Haven until they were able to return and she is now part and parcel of their family.  Their furniture doesn't come across from Kathikas until Wednesday so, a bit like Nicky and Mark, they are making do in the interim.
