The weather is incredibly hot for this time of year and I was going down to Paphos today - I must have been bonkers - the mere thought made me feel hot and clammy - although to be fair I have been suffering over the last week or so from excessive hot flushes - I thought they had been dissipating but no, they have come back with a vengeance. I guess that isn't helping with my sleep along with the fan and the water pump! To be fair John has given the fan some attention and it is much better and he promised he would investigate the water pump going off throughout the night.
I was needed today to make up the numbers for pickleball as we are struggling to cover the sessions having lost several players over lockdown including Mum who was the longest serving player remaining. The little club in Emba has been going for years and I really want to try and make sure it continues. We had a semi successful open day last week and have recruited one new full-time member Lee and another Jim who will come as and when he can. This just about gives us enough providing nobody falls ill, goes away or has visitors. Unfortunately poor Carol had a migraine today and I can fully sympathise with her need to stay indoors and quiet.
I had arranged to meet up with Mum before playing to have a bit of a chat and then she was going off for lunch with Di. I also wanted to do a bit of shopping particularly as John had expressed an interest in something for Christmas which is a rare occurrence as he normally only ever asks for Socks so I wanted to strike whilst the iron was hot so to speak.
When I left Droushia mid-morning the thermometer was pushing 30 and by the time I got to Paphos I reckon it must have been breaking records. This year, after a slow start, we have had an incredibly hot July, August and September and October seems to be heading in the same direction. This is good news if it is true what they say about the virus not thriving in the heat.
My shopping trip was successful and I had a stop off and a chat with Mum - we will be seeing her for Brunch tomorrow as we thought that might make a nice change. Having thought about it we felt that spending time with Mum before pickleball would be more pleasant for all concerned (think hot and sweaty) and if we have something to eat with her then she doesn't really have to worry too much about what she is having for tea and, once the clocks change, we should just about get home in daylight if we leave straight from PB.
Initially there were just four of us playing but Jim had answered my shout out to see if anyone else was available and he came along and joined us for the afternoon. Oh my God what a session - I was exhausted - we had some really really tough games and because two of the players are new it is really difficult to judge how they play. It really was enjoyable but I think I am going to suffer tomorrow!!!
So exhausted that I completely forgot to take any relevant photographs for the day!
