Today the Duck that Lies (aka our water thermometer) was showing 21 degrees and really that isn't cold - not when you think that is the recommended temperature for central heating in the UK so I 'sucked it up Buttercup' and got in for a swim.
Actually once in it was lovely and the initial chill soon dissipated and then it felt quite warm. I am just concentrating on the supposed positive impact it has on my mental health and general well-being. To be fair I feel pretty good although I could probably do with losing a bit of weight and coiffing less vino. On that subject John shot off to the winery to replenish stocks - the threat of an impending second lockdown has worried him - we ran out last time and had to wait for the winery to open up specially so that we could refill the wine rack.
It was a bit of a non-day today because basically we were waiting to hear whether or not Les was going to be able to come home. If he was then either John or I had to be able to go down to Paphos to pick him up and it being a Saturday the Mighty Blades were playing and weeks ago John had invited our new neighbour and Manchester City supporter Das to come and watch with him.
As it happens Les could not come home today although it took until nearly 5pm for this decision to be conveyed to him and to us. He sounded much better though and was philosophical about remaining incarcerated for at least one more day. Hopefully if he is released tomorrow we can work his return around the time that Mum comes for lunch. She was supposed to be coming with Lilian but Lilian phoned and said that she was feeling a bit under the weather so thought that, under the circumstances, and not wishing to pass anything on to Mum or John and I she would postpone until she was fighting fit which was probably the best thing to do. It didn't make a lot of difference to me either way as I had planned to cook what we were having for lunch tomorrow during the morning so it wouldn't be wasted.
I got the chance to speak to my lovely friend Hazel today. She was so excited that after months and months of lockdown she was going to be able to get her hair cut next Friday for the first time in almost a year. I felt so sorry for her when later in the evening it was 'leaked' in the press that the UK would be heading for full lockdown again and that this was to come into effect on Thursday, thus scuppering her plans to be coiffed. The picture above is of course Donald Trump and not my friend Hazel. He has a pretty important day on Tuesday (3rd November) when he will hope that the wind and weather is kind to him along with the countries voters. I have to say the situation in the USA with regard to the presidential elections seems to be a vote for the lesser of two evils - from what I have seen in the recent debates there isn't much between them and neither inspire me with confidence.
Nothing seems to be going in our favour at the moment, certainly not the football that's for sure so we sat down to enjoy a nice British gentle comedy before retiring to bed. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was on TV and although we have seen it that was about 5 years ago when it first came out so it was quite nice to familiarise ourselves with the cast and the story.
Sadly today saw the passing of Sean Connery at the grand age of 90. Having seen the most recent photograph of him taken at his home yesterday or the day before you realised how much that vibrant, robust and sexy man had aged and started to look frail. May he Rest in Peace.
