Water water!!

So we have had a massive mystery going on with our water meter.  Our meter was read the other week and then Marianna came and re-read it saying that there was a problem.  Our bill came - it wasn't massive so we were quite happy but the meter readings bore no resemblance to anything which appeared on the last bill. In fact the uptodate reading was considerably less than it had been on the last bill which made no sense at all.  Our bill said the reading was 1688 and John read it after Marianna and it said 1687 and this morning it read 1686 so it was going backwards!!  I went up to the community office to speak to Marianna who agreed it was a problem and we needed a new meter which she would organise.  When I asked her about the readings for the usage on the current bill she said she sort of had to guess a figure for the previous reading because the computer system required one.  I said I thought it was a bit high and she agreed to reduce it down to whatever we had paid for the same period last year which suited me as it was less!

I reported back to John and then we shot off into the village to check the post and go to the cemetery - narrowly avoiding being run over by a Syrian man and his wife who were in the village and lost and who had ignored the road closed signs and got up to Finikas and then realised the signs weren't lying and the road was indeed closed!!!  He tried reversing back and reversed into the corner of village house and then almost reversed into Pani's boat - he then drove up to the cemetery and we pointed out his error and he tried reversing again.  Clearly driving tests in Syria must be in a forward direction only - that is if he has ever taken one!

This afternoon we went for a walk with Nicky and Mark as part of Mark's exercise regime - down on the coast it was exceptionally warm and muggy but it was very pleasant to stroll along the harbour right to the end to see the (fairly) newly erected statue to the mythical queen of Cyprus Rigena.  If you click on the link you will see the story behind its being commissioned.  It is actually a very beautiful piece of Art and thankfully it has remained untouched by graffiti so far.  We finished off our walk with a drink at Coffee Island on the harbour where I can absolutely thoroughly recommend the vanilla milkshakes.

This evening we were catching up with Les who is now much less of a prisoner in his home because the road outside is nearing completion at long last.  We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside in the garden at Finikas to have a light meal - salad, chicken souvlaki and chips which was absolutely delicious and completely hit the spot.  Marina and Philippos are concerned about the worsening virus situation in Polis.  They said they were anticipating further restrictions and were right as the ministry is meeting again tomorrow.  It was not a late night but a very pleasant one and it was good to see Les looking happier than of late.

We managed to walk home along the main road into the village which is now looking much better - not finished but now you can get a good feel for how the project is going to be once completed.  This is outside my lovely friend Georgia's house - she and her family have been unable to come this year from South Africa which is such a shame.

A lovely day all round.
