Bad weather

Sadly the weather forecast was not wrong today - we had rain and loads of it.  It was a day to hunker down and keep dry.  Our first task of the morning was to sort out the leftover curry as Karen had wanted some of it to go to Nicky and Mark.  My kitchen smelt like an Indian Takeaway and we had enough to put a small meal together for Sonia.  She had to have blood tests this morning so we took her down to Polis and I stayed with her whilst John went and did a bit of shopping so that when we returned home we had everything we needed for the weekend so that we didn't have to go out again - more bad weather is forecast.

I spent most of the remainder of the day cooking.  We are having our regular Friday night date night which means a nice meal, a glass of wine or two and something to watch on the box.  Having heard that Mum was having sausage and mash one night this week that was what we fancied tonight especially as it was cold and damp outside and we wanted something nice and warming.  On Sunday Mum is coming up and we are having lamb casserole and I wanted to marinade the lamb for a day or two to get it nice and tender (apparently apple cider vinegar is good for that).

I have to say that on a wet and wild night there is nothing nicer than sausages in a rich red wine and onion gravy with silky smooth mash and garden peas!!!

We had the gas fire lit and it was warm and cosy.  Winter now seems to come earlier and earlier - when we first moved we wouldn't expect much rain until January and in November and December we would get dry fine days and clear cold nights which brought with them frost but I don't remember the last time we had frost and we haven't had snow for the last couple of years either.  I think I preferred the weather when it was like that dry and cold rather than mild and wet.

I have even got my crochet out - that is a sign it is getting colder.  I like to do some whilst we are watching TV and I am trying to get a blanket made to give to Kia for her birthday which is just before Christmas - I have a way to go because at the moment it is no bigger than a gents handerchief and that isn't going to keep anything much warm!!!

We were both feeling quite tired - neither of us have had particularly good sleep over the past couple of nights so fed watered and warm we struggled to keep our eyes open until we started watching a four part series John had seen advertised on the TV.

We watched The Sister which had been broadcast on ITV a couple of weeks ago.  It was a scary psychological and paranormal thriller which had us gripped so much that we watched all four episodes - not entirely sure I completely understood the ending but nevertheless it was a good watch.
