Traversing the Length and Breadth of Droushia

Another day and another mammoth walk although this time with much less pleasant weather and much much much bigger hills.  The beginning of the walk involves leaving the village via the main road down the hill towards the museum and for this stretch we had some rain.  Not a lot thankfully but big fat drops which we decided were nicer than 'light drizzle' which gets you very wet.  We were joined on this sortie by Liselotte who wanted some exercise as we were not playing pickleball this afternoon.  John and I had recced the walk in the car and even John had to admit he was not prepared for just how steep and long the first hill proved to be - I thought I was just me and my leadened limbs from yesterday!!

This walk took us down along the bottom of Aunty Friday's house and then out round some of the famous rocks and across to Pittikopis and back zig-zagging to ensure that the walk was long enough - in fact had we realised there was quite a simple loop we could have added just as we got to where my friend
Stephanie lives which would have added some distance and avoided the second step hill which nearly proved a step too far for me and I was all for calling into Steph's for a cuppa and a lift home!

We walked for two hours and twenty one minutes, covered 11.8km and ascended 320 kilometers in height and descended the same amount which is about right as it was a circular trip beginning and ending at our house.  I really need to know the number of steps because with my little short legs I seem to do twice as many as anyone else.

As the morning went on the weather improved and the sunshine brought out the colours of the fields where the remaining leaves on the vines are looking autumnal.  We are lucky to have all this on our doorstep and we know that traveling it in the car is nothing like seeing and experiencing it first hand.  God knows how I am going to be tomorrow having managed to walk about 30 kilometers this week.  John is proud of me and I am proud of me as I am not naturally one who likes exercise but I am determined to keep it going - in fact I may put a pair of walking trainers on my Christmas list (should we go shopping!!!).
