Today turned into a lovely day after a right old dodgy start - early in the morning I was woken by another thunderstorm and driving rain and I waited to see if the electricity would go off once again but fortunately it didn't.
Rachel, Nicky and I looked at the weather early doors and then decided to go, go, go. With the Gin Bar reopening after the recent lockdown Rachel needed to be ready to man the stoves at 10.00am so we had decided to be up and at 'em outside the Farmyard at 8.00am sharp!!!
Happy to accommodate Rachel with whatever we could manage and still give her enough time for a shit, shower and shave we left it to her to decide on the route. What we actually did was the walk from last time around Kathikas but in the opposite direction (which we actually preferred). On our way out of the village centre I was busy taking photographs of some lovely old blue shutters when I spotted a fabulous little gizmo which is used for pegging them back and which has the head and shoulders of a person on them - I haven't seen any like this before.
We had a dry and temperate walk which was such a bonus as we had expected to get soaked and the scenery was stunning and just about as autumnal as it gets over here. The leaves on the vines are shades of yellow and orange and when there was a bit of sunshine they shimmered like gold.
As we approached the house on the top of the hill the bloody big dog was there again just sitting in the gateway of a field watching us not making a sound. It's so strange to suddenly become aware of an animal the size of a small horse just watching your every move without moving himself. We aren't bothered about him now and today he did not follow us - maybe he sensed we were heading towards the main road rather than amongst the fields.
We walked marginally further and marginally faster than last time and were back with loads of time for Rachel to get herself ready. Nicky and I wandered down to the Gin Bar and decided to stop for breakfast, I was starving and we also thought it would show Rachel and Savvas our support after what has been the most difficult of times for them, their businesses and family.
The weather deteriorated during the course of the day but when the sun did come out we were treated to a fabulous rainbow (in fact two but the camera couldn't capture them).
We would normally light the woodburner tonight - it being December 1st but we didn't feel the need - we snuggled down in the lounge with the gas fire on and the final episode of The Undoing.
John was a bit distraught to find out that he no longer owns any long leg jim-jams (he has plenty of short ones). I reminded him that we had to throw his last remaining pair of long ones away because they had developed a massive hole on the crotch!!
Back to the Ungoing and both John and I had had our theories about whodunnit and we had both come to a different conclusion and both of us were wrong!!!
Enjoyed that series though and we are now looking for something else to keep us occupied for a few nights before Christmas when Mum is here.
