Day one of our new lockdown which is to last until the end of January. It was a beautiful, beautiful day and we had Sunday Lunch in the bag - or rather in the oven. John had selected a piece of pork with skin still on (they tend to remove it here) so that he could have crackling and we were keeping it simple with roasted veg so it was all going to be ready in about an hour - just enough time for a small G&T whilst sitting outside enjoying the sunshine.
John's piece of pork was a triumph - the crackling was fantastic and we had that first, on its own to savour the flavour! I am not normally a huge roast pork fan but this was simply melt in your mouth. The original joint had been halved - the other half is in the freezer for another day and we only ate half of what we cooked - not bad as the whole thing only cost about 4 euros!
We have been drawing up a list of things to do whilst we are incarcerated - the fine weather is only due to last a few more days so we will be started with outside jobs first and if time allows and the weather is dry we shall also be walking and possibly doing a bit of food shopping although we are fairly well stocked at the moment.
Faced with the prospect of being together nigh on 24/7 John and I have started to read the books we exchanged on Christmas Eve as part of our new tradition Jólabókaflóð. I received the Ladybird book - How it Works: The Husband. It is hugely enlightening as you can see from the first page - I need to ensure we have plenty of sausages and beer in the house at all times.
John received the Ladybird book - How it Works: The Wife. John tells me that this tome is also hugely enlightening and he has learned from the first page that he needs to ensure we have plenty of wine in and that my glass is topped up at all times!!
We did very little after lunch - too stuffed and too warm as John had lit the woodburner early and it was just lovely in the house. We settled down to some TV - needing to find something good to watch now that we have finished the first series of Ratched and the second has not as yet been broadcast. John chose something but we soon realised it was in Dutch so gave that a miss. I found a three-parter Channel 5 production called Penance which filled the time admirably until we called it a day.
Day one done about another twenty to go - I wonder what pearly words of wisdom our Ladybird books will reveal tomorrow?
