Walking and Pasties

It had been rather a wild and wet start to the day so initially we thought our planned walk might get canceled but it brightened up and we went anyway to blow the cobwebs away.  I didn't really have any excuse because when we went shopping earlier in the week John had found me a proper walking lightweight shower coat and I was also the proud owner of some proper walking shoes.

We had arranged to meet Liselotte at Androlikou and although we could have driven down from Pittokopis we weren't entirely sure where we were meeting so met her on the main road and followed her until we got to the starting point.  It was grey but dry.  This was not a walk which LL had done previously but she had sold it to me as one with less hills than the Adourdaleia one she had proposed - I think she was telling porkies!!!

The walk started with a long and rather steep uphill which I found rather challenging but I made it and the views were absolutely spectacular - even better my new boots (which were having their first outing) were really comfortable, no rubbing and no squeezing of my burgeoning bunion and my lightweight jacket was great as I found out I could whip the arms off and it became a gilet even though I didn't need it as the weather improved and the sun came out.

We walked in the wilds for ages until we realised that we were actually coming up the Rally road to the Bandstand at Pittokopis - we had no idea - our sense of direction had obviously failed us but this was familiar territory and by this time I realised that is was as far to walk back home as it would be to do the downward leg back to the car!!

The last half an hour was glorious, sunshine and downhill and views of the coastline stretching out in front of us.  There is really no need for us to worry about social distancing as I am always more than two meters behind bringing up the rear but I have to say I really did enjoy the walk (once all the awful uphill bits were done) although my feet were beginning to feel a bit tired as the walking boots are heavier than the trainers I usually wear.

My afternoon was productive - I set about making the Boxing Day pasties now that I had the skirt and a swede (potatoes and onion).  I am not very good at the crimping bit and I am not entirely sure how good the pastry was as I bought Jus-Rol but hopefully they will be ok.  I want to try and get ahead of the game in terms of food for the Festive Season.

I made seven pasties - ours for Boxing Day, one for Lilian, one for Les and one for LL and John.  I am not sure this is something LL eats but felt I couldn't give one to John without giving her one as well.  The crimping is ok - not sure Dad or my Nan would approve though.  At least this is Boxing Day's food sorted!!
