Well I guess we were never going to escape Winter in its entirety so we have to put up with some heavy storms, high winds and dipping temperatures. I know Uncle Stan never believes me when I say it gets cold here but on Wednesday the maximum temperature is set to be in single figures and there is a possibility of some frost - we have had the first real snow on the Troodos but as yet we are unable to see the snow-capped mountains because the skies are leadened.
It is Sunday and John's team are playing this afternoon so we had decided to have an early roast dinner so that we could be all cleared up and packed away ready to sit down and put ourselves through the pain that comes with supporting the team which is set to finish with the WORST EVER points tally in the Premier League.
We had taken out what we had thought was the other half of the pork joint we had last week. Although the bag it was in said Beef Cubes and I couldn't see any fat around the joint John seemed to think that we had used an old bag and that he had used most of the fat last week to make the crackling. As it happened the bag did not lie and on closer inspection it was clear that this was indeed beef cubes!!! This went into making a stifado which we will have next week and we had to scour the freezers to find the missing piece of pork which then had to be hastily defrosted in the microwave and as a result this affected the quality of the crackling!!! Nevertheless we had a hearty lunch with the pork, roasted vegetables, peas and Yorkshire puddings followed by the banana pudding I had made yesterday.
We are not observing Dry January or even Veganuary but are limiting our alcohol consumption to the weekends and with pork we had to have white wine and it was my favourite - Vasilikon. Actually after years of getting terrific heartburn from white wine and preferring to drink red, I think my preference has changed!!! Anyway come 4.04pm we both needed something to drown our sorrows as SUFC put in another woeful performance.
The cricket has been altogether much more exciting - and with Sri Lanka leaving England a teeny tiny target to win the test and more than a day to achieve it, it looked like England were going to clutch defeat from the jaws of victory at the beginning of their second innings!!! Mum is hooked on the snooker - the final is tonight and she is rooting for the young Chinese lad who came from behind yesterday in his semi-final to win.
We stayed up a little later than we normally do (even though we had been awake at 4.00am this morning and had fed the cats and made ourselves coffee). We watched the Pembrokeshire Murders three parter than had been on ITV and really enjoyed it - not sure about or pre-occupation with serial killers at the moment - maybe it is homework if lockdown continues for very much longer!!!
