The weather today was completely different to yesterday - it was sunny fine and bright and I nipped down to Polis to pick up a few bits and pieces and then came back and collected John because we had decided to go do a bit of a recce for a walk but going in the car so that we could check out some of the routes less traveled without running out of time. This photograph was taken on the opposite side of the road to To Karavani - it has been cleared and I cannot remember what used to be there but from there you get this amazing panoramic view.
John had wanted to take me along a route he did on Tuesday with Liselotte which had some wow moments and you can see why - with the sun shining the countryside looked fabulous.
Droushia is famous for its rocks and they are stunning - you have to wonder what happened all those years ago for these formations to have popped up all over the place. The area in front of these rocks has been cleared recently and John thought it would be a great place to have a picnic when we are not restricted to time.We came across a tiny little church perched on the edge of the road - the front door was on the far side looking out across the fields. We think the bit with the cross on it was a newer addition (although obviously not that new) the old bit at the back is still being used as the door was open and inside you could see that people had been in to light candles.
I have tried to find some information about this church but have so far drawn a blank. It is obviously still used - there are icons and freaky wax ears and heads and babies inside and candles have clearly been lit recently. It is in a beautiful spot and these tiny churches fascinate me - why is it there, who is it dedicated to? when is it used?
Shortly after the beautiful little church, perched on the hill with the stunning views, we happened upon a family of piggies that were having a fabulous time in a ditch of mud. Mum and three babies were enjoying their freedom - there are obviously some pig farms around there somewhere which was now missing four inmates!!! As we drove past one little piglet decided to run in front of the car for some distance and then thankfully shot off up the hill and back towards the other members of its family.
We made our way slowly home - I realised that some of the last stretch of this recce I had actually walked before with Liselotte and I must have planned the walk because when it is just she and I, I decide on the route, distance and elevation. John reckons (apart from the fact that there is sea in the distance) that this looks like Yorkshire. Whether it does or not is immaterial really - it just looks beautiful.
