Another amazing walk

John and I were a little late leaving for our walk today - this meant that on what was the hottest day of the year so far we were out later than we would have liked and, to make matters worse, my water bottle had a strange taste to it - somewhat reminiscent of cat food - which is probably not surprising because we put any uneaten cat foot into the same fridge that houses our water bottles - or at least we did - not anymore!!

Today we had decided to walk up the track which starts at the scrapyard/tip and takes you directly uphill along the side of a ravine away from the coast.  This time instead of turning right and coming back down the river bed we were going up further, turning left, crossing the ravine (apparently) and then returning back down the other side heading towards the coast and eventually back to the car.  My Narky Nora had it at around 9.75km but John tracked it and true to form she was short so we ended up doing way over 10km.

We walked up what we call the WOW track and got to the top where the land leveled out and was quite flat.  We turned left and skirted along the edge of a river and a massive goat, sheep and cow farm before heading further uphill - we had thought that where the land leveled out was the highest point but it wasn't!!

At the highest point we came across a picnic area which was seemingly in the middle of nowhere but as we passed by and looked up to our right we realised we had walked to the edge of Androlikou which is sort of halfway down the hill from Droushia to Latchi!!!  We could have made the walk longer by taking a detour around the village which is quite a strange place with some interesting buildings but it was getting pretty hot by this point and so we stuck to the plan and turned left and headed down towards the coast.

The camera never seems to quite capture the length and extent of an uphill climb.  We stood here to gather our thoughts and breath before negotiating our way as far as the eye could see on what was, in the main quite a minor track with loose shale underfoot.

We had expected to be coming down the hill much closer to the edge of the ravine that we had skirted on the way up - we weren't but it didn't matter - we were still afforded some pretty spectacular views which stretch from the Baths of Aphrodite right across to Pomos.

We decided that this was probably the nicest walk we have tackled so far with rewards around every corner by way of views and landscape and the final stretch took us through a field where the bee keepers were tending their bees and a flock of goats skittered around in front of us - perfect!!!  We made it back to the car in plenty of time but were hot and sweaty and in need of a shower!!

It was so beautiful this afternoon that we sat up on the roof terrace to enjoy the afternoon and evening sun.  John is playing around with some ideas to provide us with a bit more shade and today we had an interim solution which involved two laundry props and an old camouflage shade from Jumbos but it worked for the time being!!!

Friday night tends to be date night so this evening we were having fillet steak from Shukrou with a pepper honey mustard and chili sauce, some paprika chilli wedges and a salad all washed down with a very very nice bottle of wine which had been a gift from my friend Stef who had needed some medication the other week for her asthma and John had gone and got it for her.  To say thanks she gave us a limited edition bottle of Chateau Lafitte Heritage 2016.  OMG it was like nectar!
