Another lockdown looms

So today it was confirmed we would be facing another lockdown - two weeks which includes Easter - this is not going to go down well and afterwards if we want to go anywhere we have to have had at least one vaccination (three weeks previously) a rapid test or have had covid recently (WHAT??).  Anyway for today we were subject to the existing restrictions and had earmarked it as a DIY day.

It was an exceptionally hot start to the day and as John was working on the final touches to the potting bench he had to rig up some shade as it would be in full sun most of the day.  We have decided to tile the sides of the bench with the tiles we got from Bassam and to put a 'splash back' on the top so we needed to work out the pattern and make sure we had sufficient tiles to follow it through.  John knew he would not have enough adhesive to complete the job but wanted to make a start.

He did what he could manage and then we washed up and decided to go and do some last minute shopping because from Monday we will be subject to only one outing a day and all shops bar those deemed 'essential' will be closed.  Boy am I glad I managed to get my hair cut last week!!!  We stopped at the post office in the village and I was pleased that several of the packages I have been waiting for from China have finally filtered through - nothing overly exciting but at least I now have my new toilet brush for the 'downstairs' toilet!!!

We noticed that the Gelateria in Prodromi has finally opened - we decided we needed to support them whilst we could so decided to get our shopping and then sit ourselves outside with a nice big fat ice-cream rather than eat it on the go.  OMG the range of flavours is awesome and although I really only normally like vanilla they do orange which is sharp and creamy and ice-cream rather than sorbet and I love it.

I don't know if you can see this picture because the sun and the shade made it difficult but this is the splash back with the tiles before they have been grouted - John is going to do some more tomorrow and to be fair it is exceptionally hot out the back there so he has done the ground work for the sides and the tiles are ready so it shouldn't be too big a job and I am in no rush.

His handiwork has been fully inspected by the cats - strangely tonight both Minnie and Charlie were seeking shade up in the Eagle's nest.  The cats seem better - not 100% but better thank goodness.  The remainder of our day was quiet - we had leftover takeaway earmarked for our supper so I didn't have any cooking to do which is a bonus.
