A lovely day with some surprises

What a fabulous walk this morning - it was really pleasant - not too hot, not too strenuous and not too long.  We met at the car park in Kathikas and walked down out of the village towards Akoursos and then veered off down the hill into the fertile areas in the basin.  There are paths there which criss cross and every view is slightly different.

It was cooler today but we were sensible and took plenty of water stops and the beauty of this area is that there is a lot more shade available than on some of the other walks.  As we came up out of the basin we were greeted with a fabulous view all the way down to the coastline of Paphos which was swathed in a muggy fuggy heat haze whilst we were enjoying a cooling fresh breeze.

On the return leg of the walk which took us back towards Kathikas we normally pass a lovely little church dedicated to Agia Marina - Sadly I cannot find any information about this church.  There are hundreds of these little places of worship dotted all around the island.  Most of them stay unlocked and happily untouched and they are always cool and calming if you go inside.  Today our walk took us down a path just before the church and this was unchartered territory!  In fact we weren't exactly sure the path actually existed but it did and by following it we stumbled upon quite a surprise...

Tucked away down below the church was the most fabulous holiday home!!!!  with your back to the bus you had the most incredible view of the coastline nestled between a mountain on either side.  The bus looked to have been refurbished sufficiently to provide a unique holiday home for someone with children hence the pink donkey!!!  How fabulous - I loved it.

Our second surprise was that as we neared the edge of the village we realised that some lovely person had cleared the entrance to the nature trail which was hitherto so overgrown as to not be recognisable.  We ventured down a little way and it would appear that the whole path has been cleared so John and I have decided we will investigate in full next week when Liselotte is away.

This evening I had a little trip out to Peristrona to see Catherine at the Spice House.  The shop was not open but she was opening up for me because I had put a shout out for someone to cut me a stencil and that is what she used to do when she was in Oman.  As it happens the work she used to do was so intricate and fabulous and all I wanted was some wording which she had tried to reproduce during the day and got covered in black ink into the bargain!!!  Anyway we passed away a very sociable couple of hours talking about stencils, tracing, periodontal gum disease and covid!
