This morning we were up at out early because John had his second jab appointment this morning at Polis Hospital and we were hoping that it would be as quick and easy as when I had gone. He was straight in and out and didn't feel a thing which was brilliant. So vaccination done we picked up some bread and returned home for some bacon butties and a cup of coffee and a quiet day in case John started to get any side effects.
On our return John beckoned me to come and have a look - within less than 24 hours of moving Chivers' bed we had a taker and you can see from the silhouette that it is Fat Lad Charlie who has squeezed his bulk into the gap and is taking a snooze. John was thrilled that it had not been a waste of time and hopefully it will be used regularly.
Later on in the day we had a second taker - this time Mr Boo had gone inside to get some shade. This was good to see!!!
John had his quiet afternoon but experienced nothing untoward which is brilliant, I kept him company by snoozing on the sofa. I was feeling quiet tired as I have had disrupted sleep for the last couple of night and we had arranged to go out with Nicky and Mark to the Farmyard for a Thai Buffet and music by Davey Woodford so I needed to be bright eyed and bushy tailed at 5.30 when we were leaving and I was the driver this time.
It was good to see that the Farmyard was fully booked for this event. It has been a very hard 18 months for Rachel and Savvas with all the restrictions plus they lost their regular chefs just after Christmas last year and have only fairly recently been able to bring over replacements from Nepal and it has taken them some time to get used to what is expected from them.
Rachel had told me when we were walking that they now do a few cocktails at the Restaurant including a non-alcoholic one which is like a Pina Colada without the rum. This was my choice of tipple this evening and it was absolutely delicious - it was quite hard to believe that it was without any alcohol. It makes a change for me as driver to find something really nice to drink.
Tonight was the closest to the old 'Normal' that we have been for a very very long time and it was quite strange. We had to wear masks when not at the table and there was to be no dancing although it is very hard to stop people jigging around when the music is good and Rachel and Savvas and the team must have breathed a huge sigh of relief to see so many people having a good time.
The food was absolutely fabulous and such a brilliant choice - very sensibly they did not offer the same Thai buffet food that the previous chefs would have produced which meant that the punters couldn't do a direct comparison.
The starters were served at the table and we had spring rolls, crispy wantons (made without mushrooms specially for John) and dim sum - I have never tried dim sum because I think they look very anaemic and unappetising but they were delicious.
The main course was a buffet with plain and egg fried rice, plain and vegetable noodles, a fabulous Calamari dish, a tofu dish which I didn't go a huge amount on as I can't really get my head around tofu, a delicious chicken in oyster sauce, a sweet and sour pork and a beef curry so plenty to chose from and you could go up for seconds if you wanted.
At the end they brought around a plate of bao buns which again were delicious, light as a feather and a nice way to round of the meal.
I would have thought that the food and the entertainment for 18 euros a head was actually good value for money. As we four are none of us night birds we were quite happy to finish up and retire to villa 10b for a coffee or cup of tea to finish off the evening.
I was glad for an early night as I am meeting up with Liselotte tomorrow for a walk starting at 8am. It all started so well but I woke a couple of hours later and realised Charlie was nowhere to be seen and he really was nowhere - I think he may have been shut in somewhere or visiting Ellen or Richard because the second time I went out ready to walk the streets he sheepishly appeared coming out through Nicky and Mark's garden.
