We are taking it easy this weekend and spoiling ourselves as it is our 30th wedding anniversary on Monday.
We started today with a lie-in and a lazy start and then pootled off down to do our shopping via the Gravity Road Diner where we stopped to have a chat with Belinda and ordered two light bite breakfasts to set us up for the day.
Whilst there Graham Peacock from the village came in for what appeared to be his regular morning coffee and brandy chaser!!! He had been desperately looking around Polis to find some light bulbs with a small bayonet fitting but had failed. We felt his pain because we have an old lamp with the same requirement and the last time the bulb went we couldn't get one anywhere except off the internet and so I had ordered a dozen. We offered Graham one of ours and he tickled us when he asked if he could be necky because the light fitting actually took four bulbs and he wondered if we might be able to spare four. We didn't mind that still left us with plenty and to be honest the lamp we use them for only cost us a euro in the charity shop so it may be a better idea to replace the lamp rather than struggle to find the bulbs!! John dropped them up to him later in the day and his wife Jo (who used to be the physio in the village) confirmed they were working and they were happy because they had light!

We did our shopping and were pondering over trying a different wine with our takeaway tonight when the girl stacking the shelves recommended a Greek one - we took it to try and will report back later. On returning home the conservatory was over 40 degrees - there was nothing for it but to get the shopping put away and get straight into the pool!!
When it was a little cooler John and I tackled the job of trying to put some shade over the end of the pool next to the house. To be fair it was really too hot to be doing anything strenuous but I just exacerbated the situation when John started to attach some of our solar lights and I let one drop and smash on the floor. He was less than impressed.
He was even lesser impressed (if that is possible) when later in the day I managed to knock over a glass vase in the conservatory which smashed into a million pieces on the tiled floor. He doesn't understand that I really don't mean to do it I am just a bit clumsy at times.
The only trouble is that absolutely nothing bounces our here and we will be finding bits of glass for weeks to come - probably in the soles of our bare feet knowing my luck. The situation was not helped by the fact that the vase had been in the conservatory for years and so the glass was brittle and thin.
Fortunately the thought of a Farmyard Takeaway cheered John up no end and we had booked it early so didn't have long to wait for it. Rachel was so keen to get this anniversary meal right that she even got John to taste my Honey chicken with extra chilli before he took it away.
Our takeaway was absolutely superb and even Charlie came to have a good old sniff at what we were eating - too spicy for him thank goodness otherwise I think he would have demanded a plate, cutlery and napkin for himself. We had our regular order - not going off piste and we washed it down with the wine that the girlie from Paps had recommended.
This wine is from Greece and was some sort of award winner. We were a bit skeptical at first because we know and love the Vasilkon white or the Sterna white but knew nothing about this. It was delicious with a nice fresh and crisp floral flavour and it went perfectly with spicy food.
Hats of girlie in Paps - next time we see you we will confirm that you made an excellent recommendation to us. The wine was on special offer so didn't cost any more than our normal regular bottles.
It was a lovely evening rounded off with a swim in the pool where once again the temperature has remained above 30 degrees well into the evening.
We have a busy day ahead of us tomorrow because Lakis and Argy are arriving and John has to pick them up from the airport. I wont go - I can't cope with the mask wearing when it is so hot so will simply wait for them to arrive and pop over and say Hi and then we can catch up proper when they are sorted.
