Our friends (and neighbours) arrive today!!

It is Saturday and later today our neighbours Argy and Lakis arrive having waited about four months longer than anticipated to be able to return to their home here.  John is going to the airport.  I will stay at home and open up their house and put the lights on when I know they have got through safe and sound.  I can't cope with the mask wearing in the car for that length of time - we double checked that we had to and yes as we are not from the same household we have to wear in the car and then we can all go indoors and take them off and sit around like normal - bonkers really.

We are pretty happy that their house is relatively clean and tidy for their arrival but we aren't entirely sure what is going on with the workmen who are fitting their glass sliding doors between the two buildings.  The work was supposed to be completed before Lakis and Argy arrived although Lakis had hoped it would be delayed so he could be here during the construction.  He has got his wish because the metal guys pitched up for a couple of hours one day this week did a bit of work and then disappeared so sadly the courtyard is an assault course of scaffolding and 'stuff'.

If anyone is wondering about the flappy strips above they are our pigeon scarers which appear to have worked when all else failed.  They are determined blighters and could sit on the light and poop everywhere even when we balanced something on top of the light to deter them.  Undeterred they would sit on the railings and do the same - with there being lovely marble steps leading up to the top bedroom we had to keep cleaning up otherwise the shine would have been removed by the acidic poo.  This should no longer be an issue when the massive sliding doors are finally installed which will make this area enclosed when Argy and Lakis are back in the UK.

Our day was spent fiddling about in the garden and swimming, more swimming than anything else really as it was another very hot day.  Early afternoon we invited Mark and Nicky to join us as their pool is nearing completion but not ready yet.  It is going to look spectacular - I really like their choice of tiles which are nothing like you would normally associate with a swimming pool and right up our street.  It was what we were trying to achieve when we initially ordered the resin 'birdseed' finish which the a***hole failed to deliver and we had to have remedial work and a finish which wasn't really what we wanted.

Our anniversary weekend supper this evening was a fillet steak from Shuks.  This was Cypriot fillet steak which I don't normally buy because they are normally much smaller than those you get from France.  This was however very reasonably priced and even more so when I got my Wednesday discount.  I wasn't sure how it would cook up but should not have worried because I think it is fair to say it was 'melt in your mouth'.  We had it with paprika oven fries which I now have down to a fine art, garden peas and my own mustard sauce.

We are out for lunch with Mum and Lilian tomorrow and have chosen to go to Molos on the harbour in Latchi.  On Monday John and I are spending the day to ourselves - maybe going for a picnic if it is not too hot and then we have asked a couple of friends and neighbours to pop in and have a drink with us in the evening.  Nothing fancy but rather that than sit like Billy No Mates.  We really want to do something special with Mum, John's Mum, Jacky and Stan if they are able to come later in the year.

We had a knock on the door this evening (just before John was going to shoot off to the airport) and it was Richard and Ellen from the 5's bearing a beautiful lily for our anniversary - it is such a fabulous colour and it is so sweet of them.

John then set off for the airport.  The EasyJet flight came in early so John didn't have to wait at the picnic spot for a call, he managed to find a spot outside and Lakis and Argy appeared shortly afterwards.

They were happy to arrive back at Lordos 1 and it did look clean and tidy for them.  We had a quick drink with them to welcome them back and then left them to unpack.  We will check in with them tomorrow for sure!
