Today I feel I have turned a corner - although by no means 100% I did manage some sleep and wanted to get up this morning rather than languish in bed - it was a good thing to do. I managed for most of the day without painkillers which must be progress.
That was the good news for the day.
Charlie has been very lethargic of late - we thought it was because it has been so blooming hot but we realised today that he is nursing an injury - he has been in a scrap and has had a claw in the base of his tail which has turned into an abscess. That explains a lot and we are now old hands with abscesses so we will look after it ourselves unless it looks like it isn't going to heal.
On the subject of cats there is a newbie on the block. Belinda revealed that they have an edition to their family in the shape of little Lola who is, apparently, scaring the shit out of their big but soppy dog Lindy! I hope that when Lola is old enough and big enough to venture out that our cats are kind to her. She reminds me of one of the three kittens we rescued many years ago who was one of the Rat Pack which we raised and hand fed.
So the other bit of bad news we had today was that the fridge part of our large fridge freezer isn't working properly - the top part isn't getting cold. John had found a can of tonic which had exploded and pushed off the top of the can which initially we couldn't find.
The fault isn't good news for John's beer collection which we had to take out and the contents of the freezer and then get the fridge freezer out so that we could see if it was anything obvious. It did look like at some point in the past a mouse had started to build a next in the back - this was a pink job to remove although I have no idea why it should have been. That was the only thing we could spot but having removed it and having returned the fridge/freezer to its spot the fridge didn't cool down any more. We are just going to have to get a man in.
I was actually a bit hungry tonight - we had to have a 'soft' meal so I plumped for some new potatoes served with a side salad and some of Shuk's delicious pork koftas which I spice up with some piri piri and it went down a treat. John said he was relieved to see me sounding and looking better - he hadn't told me before but apparently my face was pretty swollen in places.
