Nothing quite went to plan today - not that anything was that important that it had to be done today but we were going to go down to Polis and drop off the hearing aid batteries to C&A Apartments because they were just right for Nitsa's husband Chris and we were more than happy to give them to him because we know that things have been very tough for the family and the business for the past 2 years (well actually health-wise for a very, very long time). Then we were going to do our weekly shop but it was so hot I was almost glad that we decided not to go. As it happens Mark needed to get his wooden fascias sorted ready for Harris to come with the aluminium soffits and fascias tomorrow and John gave him a hand. Ask John how long a job is going to take and he always severely underestimates so I knew I could be in for a bit of a wait so decided to see what I could rustle up for our meal today and found some Lamb Steaks, new potatoes and peas and decided that would do and it did! Shopping was going to be pushed back until tomorrow.
This photograph popped up on social media as a memory today - this was taken at my nephew Matthew's wedding in Dubai four years ago. He and Loren are expecting their first baby later this year which is lovely and even better the package I sent using the new customs declaration online system has arrived!!! Anyway this is me with my mum and my sister. I don't know where my genes came from because compared to my mum and my sister I look twice the size!!! I liked that dress initially but on reflection I think that busy large pattern makes me look well, busy and large! I don't remember if I still have that dress in the wardrobe but if I do I am thinking I should get rid!
Once John had finished helping Mark we retired to the pool to cool down before having our meal. It was so blooming hot and Nicky and Mark's pool is in the process of being tiled that we asked them to come and have a swim this evening for which they were very grateful. I don't know how we got on to the subject but we were talking about the Hong Kong Handover Ceremony in 1997 and I fished out this photograph which includes John - it was taken in the pouring rain on the parade ground on that very historic day. I remember having to go into a rental shop in Yeovil to ask them to video it for me. I had no idea if I would be able to spot John or what time he might appear on our screens and I was at work so this was the only place that was happy to but in one tape after another! I remember feeling incredibly proud and emotional watching him (and all the others).
