A lovely early walk

It was up and at 'em (The Mighty Cheatham) very early this morning as Nicky and I were walking and setting off at 7.30am to avoid the heat - we were doing a simple walk from ours to Inea and then out to Pittokopis and back.  This magnificent old olive tree is situated in the grounds of Inea church next to the building that used to house the Weaving Museum.  It is a magnificent specimen of an ancient tree and must have been there for many years.  It should have a fairy door - it is shouting out for a fairy door!

When we first moved to Droushia I think it was fair to say that Inea was a bit of a dump but in recent years the refurbishments (cobbled streets and natural stone walls) have made it an attractive proposition as a village in which to live.  There are some stunning properties and now that there is a small shop, coffee shop and the new taverna has more going for it.   Nicky and I enjoy our walks that take us through the village and for some reason we seem to cover the first three or four kilometers without even noticing - probably because it is relatively level and there is quite a bit of shade and things to look at!!

The second half of the walk from the Radar back into the village is rather more taxing - it is nearly all uphill with less shade and in future I think we would be wise to reverse the route so we do this bit first but even then you are feeling at your most knackered you cannot fail to feel uplifted by the view which you get across the fields and down to the Bay - it is amazing.

We finished the walk and got home ready for a nice cooling shower.  We had been notified that there was to be a short powercut in the morning and one again early afternoon - I think this may be something to do with the work they are doing in the village to put the cables underground.  By the time I got indoors it was clear that the morning power outage was done and dusted so I could jump in the shower without fear of the water pump not working.   I have to say it was a great way to start the day.  John was walking with Liselotte so his walk was a bit more taxing than ours but in a similar area including some off road bits and scrambling which I know Liselotte enjoys!
