Poorly Charlie

It is International Cat Day apparently so we have been giving Charlie an extra bit of love because he has been fighting an abscess which knocked him off his feet and he has been a bit clingy.

As a kitten he would suck my armpit to go to sleep - he doesn't do that now thank goodness but when he is down he likes to snuggle up close and he had been lying against my leg in bed this morning so I gave him my V pillow as a substitute.

He looks a bit angry in the photograph but that is because he cannot shut his right eye ever since he was knocked over - as he sleeps the lid does lower and his eye rolls backwards but it is never completely shut.

Tomorrow we will be having air conditioning installed in this bedroom so not sure what the cats will make of it and whether they will like the cool moving air or not - I am guessing they will and we are going to have to shift them all in order to get into bed at night!!!

John said that he did not want me cooking today after having had a bit of a week of it so we decided to book into The Farmyard in Kathikas for a Sunday Roast with Mum and had asked Lilian to join us.

I thought it might have been a bit hot for a roast but there was a lovely breeze in the restaurant.  Rachel had been kind enough to get a special portion of the soup for Mum - it was broccoli and stilton - I knew Mum wouldn't really like the stilton so Rachel took a portion before the cheese went in.

Rachel and Savvas have the restaurant perfectly working to comply with all the covid rules and regulations.  Diners are well staggered and on each table is a reminder of what mutt be adhered to including wearing masks when going to the buffet to select your food and you can only do that as long as there are no more than 8 people queueing.

There was so much to chose from but I decided to only have beef as my meat even though there were about 5 other options and the beef was absolute perfection - pink but not bloody and soft and tasty.  I didn't think I would be able to eat all the courses but had a small portion of the soup (with the cheese added) then a nice plate of the salad starters before my roast dinner and then a small portion of bread and butter pudding and red velvet cake - all swilled down with a nice chilled glass of white wine.  It was a really lovely meal and Mum was on good form.

We spent the remainder of the afternoon in the garden looking through the photographs of when we took Mum and Dad to Hong Kong, Bangkok and Cha Am.  They say that is a good exercise for the memory and also helps to promote more conversation particularly as Lilian had been to Hong Kong on a number of occasions when her husband had been alive.

We haven't seen Nicky and Mark for ages so invited them to come across after Mum had left so that we could have a catch up and before they had their evening meal.  Nicky and I swam but John and Mark just dangled their feet in the water to keep cool while they discussed various building projects.  I know they have a busy week next week so not sure when we will get a chance to have a chat again - as Nicky says November is looking good!
