There was rain forecast yesterday somewhere on the island. John went to Spilia with Lakis and Argy and he said they had a few spots near Paphos Airport but that was it. The sun went down like a ball of fire so that looked like that was the end of any rain for the time-being. Fingers crossed because hopefully the weekend after next John's Mum, Jackie and Stan will be arriving.
This morning it was Mum's next visit to the hospital for a dressing change. Once again we were lucky to get a parking space relatively quickly and then I staggered across the road with Mum in the wheelchair. The road surface is very uneven and there are no dropped curbs at the crossing points so I have to take our lives in our hands weaving in and out of the early morning hospital traffic. We have to have our vaccination certificates checked at the door and our temperatures taken before we can go on up to the dressing clinic. I now know the routine and ring the bell and wait for the door to be opened. Mum is straight in and today we have Demetri back in charge. Mum's leg is healing but nowhere near healed and Demetri started to remove bits of the skin where it had died away and this was clearly very painful. I asked Demetri if he was pleased with the progress and he said he was which was good. Her next appointment is Friday - they will decide if she needs further antibiotics to prevent infection and today I noticed that the dressings were different so there was a layer of sort of scrunched up gauze which is presumably (a) so less of it sticks to the open wounds and (b) some air is able to get in now.
We went back to Emba where I made sure Mum had everything she needed for today and tomorrow when I will return and stay over night ready to take her back to the hospital on Friday. This will be our new regime from now on unless Mum takes a down turn. This means that I will always be available to take her to the hospital and I get to go home every other night which I know John will appreciate.
I was shattered so John decided we should nip down to Polis early evening, take the recycling and then pop into Mezeklikio and have a pizza - we haven't been in there for years and remember going in with Janet and Hadge and Janet had a lovely chicken strip meal and we were glad to see that it still appears on the menu. We decided to try out the pizzas and they were actually quite nice. I had a small and John had a medium - we though they had brought two large!!! If you go stick with the small as there is so little difference between the small and the medium.
I think my shandy tonight might be a step too far and I may even be asleep in the car before I get home.
