Mum makes Progress

I know it is hard for Mum to be dependent on me but I keep telling her that if she is sensible now her recovery should be quicker - I am really hoping that we will see a big difference tomorrow and the Doctor will allay any fears we might have about progress.  Currently Mum is getting some shooting pains periodically where the worst of the injury occurred - I am hoping that this might just be nerve twinges.  She is also experiencing pain when she gets up from having her leg elevated and tries to walk - I wonder if this might just be because everything is knitting back together and when she walks she is stretching it.  What do I know?  I am not medical so these are things to ask the Doctor tomorrow.

I am grateful for the wheelchair which we have hired from the charity shop where Lilian works - if nothing else it serves as a visible reminder to people that Mum has a bad leg - the only trouble is it is quite heavy and I struggle getting it in and out of the car.  I decided though that perhaps if we could find a suitable venue with wheelchair access we might go out for a bit of lunch for a change of scenery.  I contact Irene (former cat lady from Droushia) who I knew had been compiling a list of wheelchair friendly eateries because her husband Dennis is currently in a wheelchair.  She said that Peggy's in Peyia was a good choice and I was fairly confident we could find something on the menu there that mum could and would eat.  We got there and although there is a slope there are two sections which are particularly steep and I struggled to keep control of the chair with Mum in it as we gathered momentum.  Sadly Mum had her heart set on scrambled eggs on toast but we were there too late so she had to chose something else which didn't really please her but eventually she went for a pulled pork ciabatta with coleslaw which looked lovely and she made a fair stab at eating it because she knows I get cross when she doesn't!!

As we were out she asked me to take the car to get the air conditioning in the car looked at as it is becoming progressively less effective - the guy was busy until 3.30pm so I suggested that, as Shoebox was opposite, we go and see if they had any better fitting shoes for her.  She didn't argue and so I took her in and the lovely manageress took great care and attention with Mum trying to find shoes which fitted, supported and didn't rub anywhere.  We settled on a pair which had velcro just about everywhere so Mum can adjust them to fit and if her feet are swollen can relax the fittings so they hopefully wont rub - I shan't hold my breath but have everything crossed!

I have also seen her struggling to get upright after resting her leg or sitting for some time and so I suggested that maybe a stick might help temporarily - I had expected this to meet with some resistance but this meant that we might be out longer and it involved shopping so she was happy to give it a try.  We managed to find one in the Charity shop where Lilian works which is ok for the time being and Lilian has an adjustable fold up one which Mum said she is happy to try for a while.

We returned to the garage for the car where the proprietor plugged his gizmo to the aircon and then told us he had to go somewhere and would be back in about 15 minutes.  He dusted off a chair for Mum and ramped up the air conditioning and then shot off on a moped leaving us there in charge of the workshop!!!  He was true to his word and returned after quarter of an hour, no longer on the moped but in a car and explained that he thought there might be an issue with the aircon.  He had done whatever it is that he does and put in some dye to the system and the car needs to go back in a couple of days so that he can check with a UV light whether or not there is a leak.  I am guessing there is as Mum only had it done at the end of April although at a different garage and apparently they didn't use a machine like this guy did.

We are only having a snack tonight - I had sausage casserole penciled in so I have put the sausages in the freezer for another time and snaffled the small bottle of red wine I was going to use to make the onion gravy and I will sup that myself tonight - I haven't had a drink in a week so I might be a bit squiffy afterwards.
