Today we were having a family outing for Sunday Lunch and in our opinion there really is nowhere that beats The Farmyard. It is the closest to what I consider to be a proper Sunday lunch like I would cook except that there is absolutely no way I can produce beef anything like as tender as Savvas does. Mum was joining us and we had a lovely table tucked in the corner for 12.30 so we could beat the rush. The beauty about lunch here is that you can have as much or as little as you want. I started with a small bowl of the soup which was Celery and which I wasn't sure I was going to like but it was really, really nice. Then I had a small portion from the salad bar even though I would have liked to have had about twice as much but then I wouldn't have been able to enjoy my main meal.
There is so much to choose from but I have learned over the years not to overface myself so I just went for the Beef and OMG that to die for. Bless Savvas he gave me a fabulous stack of super thin, super succulent, super pink slices and I had green beans and sweetcorn, roast potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, pigs in blankets and a slug of cranberry sauce which is weird I know but I like that mix of savoury and sweet.
For pudding there were so many choices but I opted for Savvas's legendary bread and butter pudding and a slice of red velvet cake.
Because of being on steroids I only had a little sippette of white wine but plenty of water and a nice cup of coffee at the end of it all. Big thanks to Mum who paid for everyone's meal today which was very kind of her. I think Stan was super impressed by his meal - so much so that we have decided it might be the best place to go next Sunday before we take them to the airport.
We returned to ours for a chat before Mum made her way back home - this was the first Sunday since her accident that she has been able to drive up here so for her it was a bit of normality and extra company too. We had a little visitor up above us when we were sat at the outside table. A small hawk moth caterpillar which had turned brown and was obviously close to making the final part of its journey into becoming a pupa.
Bless Janet (my lovely Mother in Law) she came armed with more gifts - a beautiful earring and necklace set for Mum and some special glasses for John and I - these were in recognition of all the special events we have missed celebrating together over the long old Covid period. I know we were saying we had too many glasses but these are super special and we shall be making room for them and using them. Two grotty old ones are going to have to go!!
