Super Sunday

It was a lovely bright and blustery start to the day so we bit the bullet and got several loads of washing out.  Although it was very chilly the strong wind ensured that we managed to get nearly everything dry which is a bonus in January and at least there is now a little room in the laundry basket.

It was an easy start to the morning because we had planned an easy lunch for Mum.  We were having a very un-Sunday-like-lunch of ham, egg and chips with coleslaw on the side - all things which we know Mum likes - it really is easier and less stressful to give her what she likes and see her eat a good meal.  For pudding we were having something I had not cooked before...

...Apple Flapjack Pudding.  I had been inspired by the lovely flapjack we had eaten at the Garden Centre in the week.  As I normally do I tweaked the recipe because I didn't have any apricot jam so I used some lemon curd that was loafing in the fridge and needed using up.  The recipe asked for Lemon anyway and it gave it a tartness which it needed because the topping was rather sweet.  I also added some sultanas for a bit of extra interest.  It seemed to go down well with Mum who ate a good old bowl full and took some home for a pudding in the week.

Mum's friend Lilian had very kindly given me her last oven cleaning kit when they had disappeared off the island.  I used to get them regularly in Cycleband and it is the only thing I can get to keep my hob and my Pyrex dishes clean.  After Brexit all sorts of things are no longer available on the island or extremely rare like Rocking Horse Poo but the other week we popped into the Euro Shop to see that they had some in stock so when I went and had my hair cut the other day I came home that way and picked one up for her and another one for me.  Mum will be seeing her this week so she can give it to her.  In fact we have asked Mum if she wants to ask Lilian to come out with us next Sunday when we have decided to go to Fitos for Lunch which will make a nice change from me cooking.

Even though it was a nice bright day and the temperature in the conservatory rose to a very respectable 25 degrees John still had the woodburner lit so that Mum wasn't cold.  In the main part of the house it feels very chilly this time of year and the temperature is tipped to drop considerably this evening so it will be nice to have it toasty warm this evening - we will probably watch a bit of TV and have an early night as my legs are aching a bit from our walk yesterday.

Two little ones (or not so little ones) were enjoying the sunshine although Charlie wasn't overly impressed by Boris having his legs akimbo - still at least we know where they are on a day like today - why they would want to go out in the cold lord only knows!

Another week draws to an end.  There is a new lockdown challenge starting tomorrow depending on how things go I might have time for a bit of painting but I have offered to make Mum some Christmas Cards and so before I forget I want to get them out of the way.
