After our very nice Valentine's Day which included an excellent brunch at the Garden Centre in the company of the Bobster and Di we had a quiet evening because I was up early this morning to go walking with Nicky and Rachel. Rachel has been poorly but felt well enough to come today so we met her at Kathikas and did our normal walk from there but backwards - by which I mean we did the route in reverse direction not that we were walking backwards (as per the Goons). It was a lovely bright morning and all the vineyards were being prepared for the new season with all the old growth being cut off back to the knobbly root stock. It is back breaking work.
Walking with the girlies is always quite entertaining - today it was Rachel's turn to regale us with a story which, had she not told me herself, I would not have believed!!!! Businesses have struggled here throughout the whole Covid period with closure, limited seating and more latterly policing the entrance regulations which causes all sorts of bad feeling between the non-vaccinated, partially vaccinated, fully vaccinated and visitors. The rules they are enforcing are not their rules they are simply following the edicts from the government. Understandably this has been tough and proprietors who have toed the line cannot wait for all this to be relaxed. Rachel was saying that nearly every Sunday the diners have had their vaccination certificates checked so she cannot change that someone has slipped through the net otherwise the restaurant would get a big fine at a time when they can least afford it. I could have understood it if Rachel's story had been about having to deny entry to someone on the grounds of vaccination (or lack of it) but not because they were carrying a live rabbit which they wanted to sit with them whilst they ate! REALLY????? I mean REALLY??????? Who in their right minds goes out to dinner carting a live bunny with them????
So we made our way back to the start and realised that there was a fair old uphill at the end - normally we worry about Big Dog Hill and take that element in a downhill direction but today we did that uphill, early doors and hardly felt it. Even though we have not been walking as regularly as we did last year we have still retained some of our fitness.
Hopefully we will be together again on Thursday when Nicky has invited us for an 'afternoon tea' at hers whilst the boys go out to Fitos. Rachel and I both asked if we could bring something, mouse, rat, rabbit??? This is going to run and run I can feel it!!!
So once back home we had a quick turn round and nipped down into Polis as I wanted to go and see if Dr Manolis would extend the prescriptions I have for two of my drugs and to see if we could investigate why, since I had my first major hives outbreak, I have had weird indigestion with a feeling like something is stuck in my throat. Dr M extended my prescriptions for another couple of months which is good and is going to look into what is happening with the indigestion which is good news.
We had a visit from Mina this afternoon/evening. She has had such a dreadful couple of years and to cap it all has now been diagnosed as diabetic. She is off to the dietician later this week to see if this can be reversed by diet which hopefully it can. I had asked her to join us for a bit of supper. Normally we would crack open some red wine and bless her she did bring a bottle but as she was not drinking herself we did not make matters worse and stuck to water.
