Having talked about it for some time we have finally got round to tackling the big wall and the wall opposite in the lounge/dining room. Currently painted in Magnolia it is looking somewhat grubby and in need of a freshen up. We have chosen a light silvery grey.
We were up and at 'em early doors - John was busy taking things down, moving things and covering things up. We don't have space to clear the room so we have to be careful. Moving the small bookcase involved uncabling the router and the photovoltaic monitoring system and then it is always a bit of a challenge getting it cabled back and all working.
This room has no south facing windows so it always dark - we have toyed with the idea of having a narrow long window put along the top but we wouldn't be able to clean it and we are uncertain as to how much benefit it would bring and to be fair we have always furnished and decorated this area for the winter.
It is a very high wall and John had to get in one of the big ladders in order to be able to reach the top. This always bothers me. It is an accident waiting to happen with the tiled floor! My job was to get the sander onto the sandstone around the gas fire - it is unbelievable how discoloured it had become and that from the gas flames which I had thought would be relatively 'clean' compared to other forms of heating.
I did as much cutting in as I could reach then John got to work with the roller. We realised that as the day went on we were only going to be able to complete the big wall without completely knackering ourselves so that was our target. Whilst John was rollering I was cleaning and dusting and polishing which was actually very cathartic!!! If nothing else it was a great way of keeping warm on what turned out to be a rather chilly and grey day!
