Finishing the decorating (for now)

Day two of decorating.  John was up at 6.00am and kindly left me to have an hour's peace and quiet whilst he got the room ready for us to crack on.  As I said yesterday we don't have enough space to empty the room completely so we have to do a shuffle and cover everything up.  I was on cutting in duties (where I could reach).

Initially we did not think that we would have enough paint so were extra careful that we weren't wasteful whilst still giving the wall a good covering.  It wasn't a huge expanse - the be honest the preparation and the clearing up and putting things back took more time.  We have decided that we will tackle the small toilet next but John needs to investigate the 'lump' in the wall which may need knocking out and filling and therefore time to dry before we can paint.  The kitchen will be the last job - it too has a 'lump' but in the ceiling and John thinks this could be quite a big job.

We are very happy with the end product.  We have changed a couple of pictures around and ordered a new rug for the Dining Room end and decided to bite the bullet and buy a replacement clock from Ikea.  We love that clock which we bought second hand from Stacey when she returned to the UK.  The only trouble is that every time the battery needs replacing or we need to adjust the hour it wont go until we have tipped it up, shaken it, sworn at it etc then it might go for an hour, a day, a week or a month.  Currently it has been playing up big style so last week we went to have a look at the clocks in Sun Tower but they were super expensive.  A replacement from Ikea is €55 plus delivery which is bad enough but cheaper than anything we have found elsewhere (which we like).  Today I decided enough was enough and John could give me the clock for my birthday only to find that it is out of stock.

It was nice to have the room all finished and sorted before Nicky and Mark popped in for a drink.  It is Nicky's birthday tomorrow and Mark will have got something lovely organised for her for sure so we wanted to just have them round as a little celebration beforehand.
