John was having one of his boy's lunches today and they were going to Fitos. I had said that I would drive because initially there were going to be five of them and so the Pug was the best mode of transport. As normally happens the numbers changed but I thought I would still drive because then the men could have a little drinkie without worrying. Nicky had kindly invited the girlies to hers and she was doing an afternoon tea and I knew that would be something outstanding because although she doesn't have a kitchen (and she doesn't have a kitchen of any sort whatsoever) she is a great cook and brilliant entertainer.
Before all that though I had to pop down to the Doctors with my 'sample'. Let's just say I have never had to give one of those samples before anywhere so I was a little embarrassed to say the least. This was compounded when I got to reception and found that it was the young guy on duty who hates being on reception - he clearly regards it as 'bird's work' and although I tried to be discrete with my deposit he yelled for the girl from the path lab divulging all my details for every man and his dog to hear!!! So I couldn't get out of there fast enough but my results will be ready in two days' time.
So I dropped John, Mark and the Bobster at Fitos and I went across to Nicky's where she had been cooking up a storm. Sadly Rachel had pulled out this morning as she was unwell - her attendance was always a little doubtful although the lure of egg sarnies and battenberg cake was really strong (did anyone else called battenberg Thunder and Lightning Cake??). It is a difficult time for Rachel and so it was a shame but not entirely unexpected. Sadly Belinda did not come either - not sure if she just forgot which meant that there was so much food for Nicky, Ellen and I to consume - not that we minded because it was all fabulous and it was great to spend a bit of time with Ellen learning a bit more about her.
I collected the boys who had had a good time and great food (as always) and I had a fabulous pack-up to take home for John and I although we didn't think we would eat any of it today but by late evening the lure of the sarnies and the scones became too strong and we had a romantic picky tea together by the fire. Thank you Nicky it really was superb and we know how much trouble you will have gone to.
We had a relatively quiet evening. We caught up with the most recent episode of Trigger Point and watched some normal TV for a bit. The cats don't like the cold evenings and are in with us all the time. Tonight was very cold we had another frost but sharper than of late. All the new growth on the lime tree look like they have been attacked by a flame thrower.
