I had suggested that afterwards we go somewhere for a cup of tea and a bit of a chat. Mum suggested the Sapphire Diner which is at the bottom of Chloraka Hill. I missed the turning for the car park first time round and then just about managed to get Kenny into a smallish space but fortunately Ken is quite skinny.
It was very hot today so we managed to get a table in the shade. Next to us was a bigger than life-size model of 'Elvis' or at least I am assuming it is supposed to be Elvis although facially it looked more like Alvin Stardust (and only people of a certain age will know who I mean by that!). I believe there is a connection between the diner and Chris King and Chris King is an Elvis impersonator.
Mum had a cup of tea and I had a cup of tea and a breakfast bap with egg and bacon. It was cheap and cheerful - it wouldn't be the sort of place I would generally frequent but it was pleasant enough to sit there for a while and pass some time with Mum. I know that she struggles with her own company and hates to be in the house all day but sometimes this cannot be helped.
When I returned home John had been busy. He had taken down the remaining bit of the green hedge and the old gate and opened up that bit of the garden. I had a whole load of pots which needed a rehome so we wandered around the garden trying to find suitable spots to place them. You can see from the sky it was a glorious and extremely hot day so we didn't spend too much time outside as it was roasting.
We decided to have an early tea because John wanted to nip down into the village to see if the barber was working as he desperately wanted a haircut. Tonight was one of my favourites - a salad with our local halloumi and bacon. I had picked up some meat from Shuks and at the same time he had some specialist chili sauces on offer so I got a smoky one and a lemon one and we tried out the smoky one on the salad and it was lovely.
We then wandered down into the village and settled down at Stathmos for a beer whilst we waited for the barber to arrive which thankfully he did. The Mukhtar beat John to the barber's chair but we weren't bothered because some nice ladies from Nicosia who were staying at the Droushia Heights engaged us in conversation. It was actually really lovely sat there watching the world go by. John got his hair cut and was very happy with his €7 coif although he gave Christakis €10 because he did his beard and moustache at the same time. I said to Christakis that he looked so much better I decided I would keep him!
When we had left Bassam had arrived to do some more work at George and Pam's and when we got back he was still there finishing off so we invited him to come and have a drink with us and so John could discuss any final work that needed to be done before the job is deemed to be complete. It has been a big job getting rid of the garden and replacing it with tiles - we think it looks pretty amazing and hope that George and Pam are pleased.
