Dining with Dip!

It was an exceptionally hot day today and we were meeting up with Dip.  Originally we had intended to do a barbeque at home but then thought he might like to try a spot of lunch in the village at O Stathmos because we know he likes eating traditional.  We had not told him of the change of plan, we didn't think anything of it, so how bad did we feel when he came armed with food for the grill?  Not only that but food he had prepared himself!!!!!  There was nothing for it but to invite him back again next week (which we had planned to do anyway) so that he can eat some of the food.  We put it in the freezer.  I am particularly looking forward to the lamb koftas which had more than a hint of chili, garlic and ginger - right up my street.

So we walked down into the village and sat at Stathmos.  The doors were open but no-one was there.  Bambos had confirmed yesterday that we were coming when we had gone done for John's haircut so we were not overly bothered that he wasn't there.  He arrived all of a kerfuffle because apparently Sylvia his wife has had to go back to Bulgaria with her Mum who is poorly or maybe her Mum is there already and he was doing food at the hotel and food for us at the taverna.  This involved him getting into the truck every 5 minutes and shooting off!!!

We sat quite happily in the shade enjoying some cold beers and a lovely lunch of salad, chips and chicken souvlaki followed by a plate of fresh fruit.  We weren't bothered by his comings and goings and ultimately we paid up for our food and told him to leave us there so he could concentrate on the hotel guests - he seemed somewhat relieved by that.  He had asked us if we had wanted to eat up at the hotel - that would have made life easier for him but actually we prefer being under the shade in the village and he was happy to accommodate that as long as we realised he would be doing a fair impression of a boomerang!!!

I know many people don't like the cobbles we have now in the village but when you look up the road from O Stathmos to Sappho Manor (with the blue shutters) it looks so typically traditional.

We returned home for some cool drinks under our gazebo - it turned into a right old multi-cultural afternoon when we were joined by Bassam who had been at George and Pam's doing some final bits and pieces.  The three guys sat putting the world to rights - it was lovely.
