A Lovely Lunch

Just to prove I am sometimes in a photograph here is one that Mark took last night when we were celebrating their house sale.  We are in the grips of a heatwave so the pool is a godsend and last night it remained warm late into the evening and we had gotten all wrinkly from being in it too long!  The temperatures are definitely higher than they are publishing so I guess at the height of the day we are probably experiencing 40 degrees plus.

We had a lazy start to the morning.  Just as well after a few drinkies last night!!! We had arranged to go to the Winery with Lakis an Argy.  John wanted to top up the wine rack and it seemed a nice idea to go for lunch at the same time.  They were happy to join us so after I had dropped Kenny down to Andreas to have the burbling looked at and the engine mount issue we picked up our neighbours and trotted off to the Winery.  In the reception they had baskets with the dried heads of Artichokes inside.  They looked really pretty - I guess they probably make quite a mess when they start to drop but like this are an attractive splash of colour.

We had a lovely lunch.  The Winery was quiet so we had the pick of the tables as we had gone early and the food was excellent.  It doesn't look like they have increased their prices so it was a much more reasonable option for eating out than going somewhere else of an evening.  Lakis had pastichio which he said was excellent and shared with Argy and she shared her chicken skewers with him.  John had a pork chop and I had a chicken wrap.  John stuck to water as he was driving Mrs Kirby and the rest of us had a nicely chilled bottle of Vasilikon.

John and I did nothing on our return save for snooze, swim and chill.  We sit in the new seating area in the afternoon because it is in the shade and surrounded by greenery so it feels cool.

We had decided that if we could we would stay up and watch the England Women's football team playing Sweden in the semi-final of the European Cup.  I think John was more interested in seeing what Bramall Lane looked like because that was where the game was being played.

It didn't start until 10.00pm which in itself is way past my bedtime and so therefore didn't finish until nearly midnight.  Having said that once I had got into the game I didn't feel that tired.  The Lionesses won 4-0 - the scoreline was somewhat flattering because it could have been so different in the first few minutes had it not been for the England Goalie who is, apparently, a Blade!  Anyway I guess we will watch the final which is being played on Sunday at Wembley and the opposition will either be France or Germany.

John is going for a bike ride with Richard tomorrow - I am home alone because I am not going to see Mum - John and I are going down on Friday instead.  I had been invited by Rachel to go on a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon but I would have fried - we have weather warnings again for tomorrow so I declined.

As a result of the sad news that my Grammar School is closing there have been lots of photographs being posted to the Old Girls social media page.   This one was taken in 1973 and is one seventh of the total photograph so you can have some idea of how many girls were being educated there then.  They are to close this year because the total number of pupils was set to be under 50!  Anyway I am in this picture (sadly the owner's dog had chewed it in places) and I am stood behind my sister - can you spot us?
