Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep

I have been talking about the noise made by the cicadas this year - even Mum has said she cannot remember them being so loud previously.  It is an amazing cacophany but we quite like it as it is just synonymous with living in the Mediterranean.  Anyway I took this quick bit of video the other day when I was walking into the village to give you some idea of what I mean.

So the day started with a little excitement as we checked out lottery tickets - not having done this before over here it was all a bit on a mystery but I managed to ascertain that the tickets were for last night's draw and I found a website to check the numbers - it isn't very sophisticated so it was a question of me shouting them out and John checking our 8 lines.  We didn't want to be greedy any old win would do - even three numbers which would net us the grand sum of €1.50!!!  The numbers were...

  • 2
  • 7
  • 14
  • 25
  • 43
  • 48
  • +
  • 12

...and we managed to get two numbers on one line 😃😃😃 so we won nothing, nada, tipota so put those begging letters away!  I am off to break the bad news to Lakis and Argy who had split the 4 euros stake money with us!

On the subject of L&A we had such a laugh last night with Lakis trying to get a selfie with all four of us in it.  This was probably the best of the bunch - for some reason his phone has a delay after the button is pressed so quite often we were moving as the shutter went, moving and creased up with laughter!  All I can say is Cheers to Lakis for capturing me with big old chunky arms.  Note to self I must do more exercise because I look like I have eaten all the pies in our household.

Mum was coming for lunch today.  She had asked if she could have a float around in the pool which is fine by us but the weather had different ideas and it turned out to be really windy so not that pleasant for Mum as she feels the cold.

We did manage to eat outside.  I had done one of Mum's favourites which is Hunter's Chicken which I served with coleslaw and some small hasselback potatoes.  It was a hit and there was enough left over for Mum to take a meal home with her.

I have to say I was well impressed with the free-range chicken breasts I had got from Naz last week they were excellent, plump and juicy with very little waste which meant Charlie wasn't so impressed as he usually gets any offcuts I remove.  We didn't go mad for a pudding so just had some fresh fruit - cherries and grapes which we got yesterday which were really lovely, plump and juicy too!

We spent the remainder of the afternoon glued to the TV watching the Men's Wimbledon Wheelchair Tennis Final which was absolutely amazing - it was a shame that the Brit, Alfie Hewett, was unable to clinch the title but he will in the future I am sure.  This was a really gripping and exciting game of tennis which was, in our opinion, far superior to the other men's final.  What a shame then that the winner of the wheelchair final won a fraction of the prize money that Djokovic and Rybakina took home which was an eye watering £2million each.

It was a beautiful cool evening - so much so that at one point I thought it was going to rain.  It didn't but we did have very heavy overnight condensation which meant that there was no need to water save for the kiwi plant which likes loads and the seed which I germinated and which I think might be some sort of Morning Glory but cannot be sure until it flowers!
