We are now in August - we waited so long for Summer to arrive and now it is racing by. The temperatures are high but the days now visibly shorter. We were having Mum here for lunch today but were all prepared so didn't have any need to get up early or so we thought...

On Friday or Saturday we reported an issue with our internet. We think we have had an issue for a while but it was intermittent - and as I know from bitter experience intermittent are the worst. John has been threatening to change to a different supplier but it isn't so easy because lots of things are connected to our Cyta email address so I have been holding off. So when it went wrong this time John gave them one last chance and they must have known because the guy at the end of the initial call agreed that he could see an issue on the router which was resulting in cyclical buffering which disappeared if the router was rebooted. For ages I have suggested that there was something breaking down but we weren't able to track it down. Anyway the support guy said he would be sending out an engineer - we hadn't realised that would be who was ringing us at 8.00am this morning when we were still in the land of nod. He was ringing from outside the front gate so we had to hastily chuck on some clothes and let him in. He rummaged around in the outside box and did something launching wires and plastic into the garden which John dutifully picked up and then he came and tested the router showing us the results which indicated that all was fine and all was fine until he started to put the router back onto the shelf and we heard the beep beep beep of an error - it was a cable from the outside to the router which was causing the issue and which he replaced as well as removing the filter which he said we no longer needed. I can report as I write this hours later that the internet has been perfect all day.
Cyta-Man was only with us about 20 minutes so we sneaked back to bed to read the paper and have a coffee before getting ready for Mum's arrival. Everything today was about the England Woman's Football team and their historic win over Germany in the final yesterday. Well deserved and a poke in the eye to all those over paid prima donna England men who have been promising to bring football home for the last 60 years.
So Mum came and we had a float around in the pool before having our lunch which was spare ribs, halloumi and lounza, coleslaw and sautéed potatoes followed by some nice fresh fruit.
Mum arrived a little later than normal because she had waited for her EasyMeals delivery so stayed a little later but we had the Commonwealth Games to keep us occupied.
When my mum had returned home safe and sound John called his Mum. I have been looking for some craft projects for her and Jacky for the days when John and Stan go to golf and had decided upon some simple paper folding with a view to making some Christmas Decorations.
I can't believe that Janet and Jackie have been doing the same and actually came up with almost exactly the same project - how spooky was that?
It was a beautiful evening - the colours as the sun sets are amazing even if we don't actually get to see the sunset proper. We are heading for a busy time and I had a message from Isabel asking if I could go with her to the customs as she has organised for her car and her belongings to go soon. I am happy to do so the only trouble is that the way I would get there is currently disrupted by road works.
It was an evening to be sat outside. Boris (who has been in another scrap and is sporting two new scratches on his face) bagged my seat in the new area. The footie season starts for John tonight but the match isn't until 10.00pm - I shall be with him in spirit as I am going to be up early tomorrow to get my hair cut.
