Too Hot

Woooooo Hooooo I got to get my hair cut today.  I had upped and showered early and set off to Paphos looking almost presentable but a combination of bonkers road works in the height of the summer (which will no doubt grind to a halt now in August because that's when everyone goes on holiday) and oppressive humidity meant I ended up arriving looking like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards, forwards and side to side and then had a bucket of water thrown over me.

There was nothing for it but to go for something radical and cool.  So I had an undercut like the one in the photograph where I got a good old shaved short back and sides but the top was left longer.  An Arfur Selby Peaky Blinders cut John calls it!!!

There is nothing new about the undercut - it is a style which I remember from the 80s when the likes of Cyndy Lauper, Allanah Currie (Thompson Twins) and my friend Sally-Anne Michie all sported that looks.  I was not quite so daring preferring to use colour over cut (much to my Dad's dismay) and in the 80s I opted for the 'Firefly' which was what the girlies from Human League sported.

On the subject of my Dad and my hair colours I once went to pick him up from Heathrow Airport sporting a sort of Farrah Fawcett flick cut where the underside was platinum blonde and the top fuschia pink.  Dad took one look and then he never spoke to me all the way home - a good couple of hours but it made it seem much longer than that!

My circuitous route around Paphos to get from one side to the other via the bank, for mum, and Shuks, for me made it feel like I had circumnavigated the globe - I was hot and sticky and feeling quite unwell.  In my latter years for reasons hormonal I have my internal thermostat stuck on overheat and it is very unpleasant.  I had suggested going out for a cuppa with Mum but couldn't face it unless we were guaranteed aircon or some shade so we decided to sit in her lounge with the flyscreens open and the fans on - here at least there was a little breeze and I downed a litre of cold water without being charged an arm and a leg for it!

When I got home I went for a sleep as I was feeling really washed out plus I have pulled a muscle in my arm and driving had aggravated it to the point where I couldn't use it properly.  That meant that when I woke it was down to a joint effort to get tea prepared - mainly done by John and it was lovely.  We ate outside - it was an exceptionally warm evening - the pool was left uncovered and the water was still over 31 degrees so perfect for a bob about and a cool down before going to bed.

This was the colour of the sky after sunset - an unfiltered mobile phone shot that really doesn't do it justice.  No humidity up here so no condensation so I managed to water the plants that need something every day using the watering can.  Hopefully tomorrow my shoulder will feel better because I will have to get the hoses out - it is going to be hot again.
