John and I go out and about

Today we had a day out and about.  It started with John going to meet the Bobster in the village for a coffee and a chat and some man-time before he and Di briefly return to the UK for Bobby's Mum's funeral.  It will be a very sad time for him but at least he managed to get back to see her a few weeks ago.  It doesn't really matter how old someone is when they pass away, if you love them it will always be a sad day.  Anyway big hugs from us to you even though Hadge and Dad passed away several years ago we still miss them greatly.  In fact today Pam gave me an English newspaper and just briefly I thought I would hand it over to Dad - he loved to read an English paper.

I wanted to go to the Garden Centre today for some compost and John suggested taking Mrs Nicky Qashqai for a little run out and lunch at Koula's sandwiches just before Pomos.  It is possibly the most beautiful scenery at any eating establishment I have ever been to!

The old caravan thing that they used to cook in has gone and there is now a state of the art stainless steel kitchen inside the shack but it still offers the same simple and honest fayre.

We ordered a 'sandwich' each with a portion of chips and a cold drink and managed to grab a table right by the view to eat our lunch.  I had halloumi, fried egg, tomato and cucumber and John had similar but swapped the egg for roast chicken and they were absolutely delicious - the bread was so soft and fresh.  John managed to eat all of his but I could have done with someone to share mine.

We sat chatting and decided to go along the coast a little further to see what they have done to the beach at Pomos where they have added some permanent umbrellas and sun loungers along with a proper beach bar.

The run to Pomos is lovely the coastline is amazing - so rugged and beautiful - in some ways it reminds me of Cornwall - it has changed over the years but is still relatively unspoilt.  Some of the new buildings are absolutely amazing - very modern but tucked away.

It was exceptionally hot down at Pomos Harbour and I felt somewhat overdressed because I had some leggings and a sleeveless tunic on because it had been cooler in Droushia (obviously!!)

This is the beach at Pomos now.  When we first came here about 30 years ago there was nothing, the car park was a patch of rough ground, the harbour was small and ancient.  I guess this is what holidaymakers are expecting these days - not a windbreak or elasticated changing towel in sight!!!  We didn't stop long - we hadn't intended to and there was no-one serving at the ice-cream parlour which might have tempted us to stay.

John used the trip to plan an extended route for his next bike ride with Richard and we turned up inland to get to the Garden Centre going via the beautiful football ground at Agia Marina which John reckons must have one of the best views of any ground anywhere (save for Bramall Lane of course).   There is the coastline to one side and mountains to the other.  I have to say the pitch looked great.

We arrived at the Garden Centre - we had rung ahead to see if Marianna had some fresh mango which she did so she had a bag of them chilling in the fridge for us which was great.

We went for a wander around the polytunnel and I spotted some small passion fruit plants.  They were only 5 euros so thought they might be worth a punt even though Marinos didn't think they would survive in Droushia if we have a frost again this winter without being wrapped in fleece which I am happy to do.  Anyway Marinos said he had a much bigger plant which he thought might have a better chance of survival if we planted it now.  He emerged with one which was about ten times the size of the 5 euro ones so I was a bit worried about how much it might cost but he let me have if for 10 euros which was a bit of a bargain.

So we returned home via Paps where we stocked up with what we needed before we go for the holiday shop before our guests arrive.  The coin exchange machine has been fixed so we are going to break into the cash cow and take some of the contents to cash in and do the shopping.  I can no longer lift the cash cow so think there is probably a fair bit of dosh lurking inside!!!
