A Big Old BBQ

Not much to report on today as we were having one of John's 'small' barbeques so there was quite a lot of prep needed before the actual event!! I think it is fair to say that it was a very quiet start to the morning before Laura and Mark went off down to St George's hoping to swim with the turtles.  John and I were manning the kitchen.  John never wants anyone to leave our dining table hungry so today we were preparing Greek salad and dips, coleslaw, village bread with olive oil and oregano and pitta bread, barbeque pork tenderloin, barbeque prawns, halloumi, scrambled egg with courgette and smashed roast new potatoes, sausages, two types of kofta, sheftalia and home made asian beef patties and something I have never made before...

...Barbeque onion rings with a honey, mustard and rosemary dressing and they were absolutely delicious, who knew??  Easy to do the trick is to cut the slices thick enough to easily poke in a skewer otherwise they tend to collapse but even then are really scrummy - I shall be doing them again for sure.

We had two lots of cake to eat - Laura and Mark had been to the patisserie in Polis and picked up a selection of little cakes and Savvas had brought John a ginagerous chocolate fridge cake for his birthday and that needed eating too.  I have completely lost my sweet tooth and dark chocolate and fridge cake rates with trifle and tiramasu in nastiness because of something lurking inside which is soggy and shouldn't be!

Anyway I have family and friends who gamely worked their way through quite a bit before John took slices of the fridge cake to George and Pam - we didn't disturb Lakis and Argy because (a) I cannot imagine Argy would eat chocolate fridge cake and I don't blame her and (b) they currently have visitors as Sotiroula and George arrived this afternoon.

Sadly Jackie had a bit of a fall yesterday down three steps which lead from the dining room into the lounge where they are staying - she didn't bounce but then nothing bounces on flagstone floors and she hurt various bits and pieces but fortunately we have a resident nurse on hand which is useful.  Poor Jackie she looked a bit shaken and was not her normal self.  The Crew did not stay overly long which was probably wise as they had walked up and although we offered to drive them back insisted they walked.

We have an early start tomorrow so we didn't have a late night but managed to catch the part iin the queen's vigil when the grandchildren stood guard over the coffin.
