Today John celebrated his 55th birthday, my Dad would have been 91 and Uncle David was 90. John's was a special birthday because after 12 years of living on the same money his pension will become index linked. We had planned a busy day so after Mark and John had been down to Paps to get some bits and pieces for the gathering we were having in the evening we sat down so that he could open the card and gift from Laura and Mark - great card featuring a ginger cat and with it a bottle of Wales finest single Malt Whisky. It was a great start to the day!
We were lunching at the Winery and Mum drove up to join us. It was quite windy out on the terrace so we moved from the table which they had reserved for us to one which was partially in the sun. It was a lovely lunch - everyone really enjoyed what they had chosen and Stan finally plucked up sufficient courage to try Sea Bass for the first time and loved it.
The staff at the winery are great. They presented John with a fabulous cake which was like a black forest gateau but with mouse and not sponge and they gave him a bottle of Methy to enjoy at home. All in all it was a lovely lunch and Mum was on good form bearing in mind she would be thinking of Dad and she looked lovely when she arrived. Maybe we are making some inroads into her health and wellbeing.
The afternoon was to be spent quietly at home - I think we are all feeling a little tired and we were glad of a bit of a rest but we asked The Crew to come and have a drink with us in the evening which they did.
Bless Mark and Laura they are brilliant with our family and good with older folks so they are more than happy to socialise with whoever comes to visit!
All in all a good day - family and friends are so important to us. Thank you for spending the day with us.
