Rummaging

With the houses around us being renovated the owners are looking for bits and pieces.  It is all very exciting to see the differing styles and approaches.  Today I was showing Jan and Gail where to find a number of second hand establishments in Chlorakas and Emba and the lovely Second Chance Furniture shop in Polemi.   I love a rummage although to be fair we need to be thinning stuff out rather than adding to it!!  We went to Furniture R Us in Emba, the lovely big junk shop in Chlorakas where I took Sonia and Sell it Again Sam.  There was some dross and there were some lovely items - I fell in love with a stained glass picture thing which would have looked amazing in the garden.  I didn't ask the price because we don't need it and we have four new tyres to buy!!!

We were lucky enough to be able to fit in a cup of tea and a piece of cake before the weather took a turn for the worse - rain had been forecast and rain is what we got.  Only in Paphos apparently which is a shame because I wanted some in Droushia so I didn't have to water later on!!!  By the time we got to Polemi there was just overcast sky and no sign of rain.

In Polemi we had to park outside the charity shop as we couldn't find anywhere closer to the second hand furniture shop.  We felt guilty so went inside and Jan bought a Pyrex flan dish and I bought these two handmade pottery coffee cups which are not matching but which I loved and I planned to fill them with candles when I got home.

We all had a lovely time - I was thrilled to have a proper girlie day out with cake and everything!!! I did my candle making and filled the cups, they looked lovely - that was €1.50 well spent although I have no idea where to put them.  I haven't made candles for ages and I have a load of wax to get rid of - I think I will look out for some cups and saucers and make some more for presents.

We are on an eating up food at the moment so we are having some interesting meals.  John was a bit unsure about tonight's offering which was vegetarian.  I did a simple salad of tomato, onion, cucumber, basil and mozzarella with olive oil and lemon thyme dressing to accompany the main course...

...which was pasta cooked in a tahini sauce flavoured with mint and lemon zest with pine nuts and halloumi tossed through it.  It didn't look very inspiring but boy did it taste good.  It must have done because John had thirds and he never has thirds.  He said that initially he didn't think he was going to like it that much but the proof of the pudding as they say!!!!

It was a cooler evening and John decided we would walk down into the village and go see Dad at the cemetery and then stop off at the barbers so John could get a well needed hair cut.

On the way down we bumped into Di and Rob and had a quick catch up.  They were on their way back from a long day in Paphos.  As we were doing the Cypriot thing of standing in the middle of the road chatting to them Savvas the tyreman returned home - he had been to the barbers and we wished him a happy birthday - he wanted us to call in and have souvla and zivania with him but we politely declined as we knew that would get messy - John explained we were en route to the cemetery and the barbers.  We could hear the celebration from our house later in the evening - we think we could even smell the souvla!!!

John was chuffed to get into the barbers chair immediately, Chrystakis was having a quick coffee with Bambos between cuts so we didn't have to wait long.  It's nice that John can wander into the village to get his hair cut!
