Rain is forecast for the end of the week so it is good to get out early and make the most of the good weather and both Nicky and I are on a mission to get a bit fitter and trimmer before Christmas. We extended our walk today so we started off by walking down Kelly's road, so that we could take advantage of the spectacular view.
The skies are clear and the colours are spectacular and this early in the morning there is little traffic on the roads. We headed down the hill and along the main road then back up into the village and headed out towards Palates Hotel. Beyond this is a fork in the road, we have been taking the left hand road but today feeling brave took the right hand which takes you out towards the viewing point from where you can see Lara. This is a much longer walk which has a long slow uphill back to the village.
We used to do this walk regularly, here we would see one of the Droushia Cows - not in evidence today but there were plenty in a field near Lordos II. There was a slight haze over the sea so the coastline wasn't clear. As we turned to walk back to the village up the long uphill we decided that we would keep going for as long as we could without a break and were amazed that we actually made it, slowly but without stopping.
I had a quick shower on my return before going out to catch up with Jan Fox who has a home at Lordos II and who has been kind enough to bring out Lick-e-Lix for the cats the last few times she has been over and who we have missed every time. I picked her up and as a thank-you for her kindness we went to the Droushia Heights for a coffee (actually hot chocolate) and sat outside on the terrace in glorious sunshine which was fine for me as I was still in summer clothes but Jan had to dispense with layers! As she says it is difficult this time of year to know quite what to wear because in the shade it was quite cool. We had a lovely chat and catch up, I took her to show her where the soap shop is as she hadn't been able to locate it and then brought her to our house to meet the cats but only Fat Boy Charlie was in evidence. We shall meet up again next time she and her husband are over. Thanks Jan for the treats - Charlie tucked in happily this afternoon.
We went and did our weekly shop in Paps in Polis this afternoon. Lakis's car was due an outing so we took the Juke. I know prices have been increasing but today it really hit home that our 'few bits' came to the best part of 100 euros. The blow was softened by tonight's make do and mend supper. We had mustard mash and veggies left over from yesterday. I had a small piece of cod loin in the freezer and a few prawns so made a fish pie. The sauce was seasoned with a dollop of tirokeftari (hot cheese dip) which was absolutely delicious.
