A lovely day and a visit to Polis Christmas Village

My sister leaves tomorrow so we had a full on day planned on a Saturday which means we have tomorrow off - when I say off I mean that Mum is not coming up so we have earmarked it for making our Boxing Day Pasties because I am beginning to panic that I am running out of time.

Although it was not such a bright day today we managed to have lunch outside at Molos and it was lovely.  Kaye had the foresight to bring a hot water bottle and a throw for Mum who is always cold.  John was going home early to watch the Mighty Blades (they won) and we were staying out until the evening because Kaye wanted to go and see the Christmas Village in Polis with the lights on.

Mum, Kaye and I headed for the baths of Aphrodite for a little walk.  It isn't far but it is uphill which is too much for Mum so she decided to stay in the car and Kaye and I completed the walk.  It was lovely.  The garden before the baths was all lush and green and there were very few people about.  We made it a circular walk and took in the views across the bay towards Argaka before going back to Mum.

Because we had to kill some time waiting for the sun to go down so that the Christmas lights would be lit in Polis we then headed across to the Garden Centre for a cup of tea.  It is such a fabulous place and Marianna was just about to close the cafe but was happy to provide us with a drink and told us to stay as long as we wanted.  We went for a little wander around as Kaye had not been there before and Marianna insisted on taking our photograph.

We made it to the Christmas Village - it wasn't dark enough for the lights when we arrived but by the time we had walked around it was.  Mum was singing to the carols and caught the eye of Father Christmas.  I think she was really enjoying herself for once.  It was good to see.   I took her and Kaye to the stall run by the lady who has the soap shop in Droushia and got them to choose a scrub soap which I paid for as a little gift from me to them for Christmas - even if they don't use it as a scrub soap it smells so lovely you can use it to keep you knickers smelling sweet!

There was a lovely atmosphere in Polis.  Ok so the village isn't massive but it is the first time they have held such an event and there was plenty to keep the children occupied and just a nice vibe as you walked around.  It just finished off the day nicely.  Well done to Polis and those involved in putting the Christmas Village on.

We returned home to have a glass of our home-made mulled wine and then said goodbye to Kaye.  She plans to return in May and would like to stay up our end of the island so she gets to experience something different.  Mum seems ok with that so we are going to see what we can find by way of suitable accommodation because she says she would like her own space.
