We were having a Sunday off today. My sister arrives this afternoon - her flight is due in at 3.00pm and we had assumed, wrongly as it transpires, that Mum would be seeing her this afternoon/evening and so John had said he wanted to take me out for lunch for a break.
It was a glorious morning. John went out for a bike ride with Pete and Richard who is now clear of Covid. I did a bit of gardening and took Dad's old shovel and fork down to the Green Area where they will be more ornamental than useful because the wooden part of the handle is knackered. Andrea says that Sammy will enjoy playing with them but I reckon they are bigger than Sammy.
The boys had a good ride and Pete and Richard decided that they would like to join us for lunch (Pete with Gail of course) because we had decided just to wander up to Kaponas and have whatever she was cooking today. Which ended up being a good choice.
John said it should be treated as the CODS (Cyclists of Droushia Society) Christmas Do but our spare Christmas Hats had been put back in the loft so it was just going to be lunch!
Kaponas was all decked out for Christmas. We started by sitting outside but it started to get chilly so we decided to move indoors - if nothing else it would keep our food warmer.
Eleni had roast chicken and roast lamb with potatoes on the menu which appealed to three of us. John and Richard plumped for Sheftalia. We had bread and dips to start and then our main meal and then Eleni brought fresh fruit and some sort of pancake things which I think is called Katimeri - whatever it was it was nice.
It was a very pleasant afternoon sat chatting and drinking - red wine and quite a lot of it - one bottle of which was a gift from Eleni! We decided to finish our meal and then carry on back at our house sitting in Santa's Grotto!!!
It was nice and warm when we got back into the Conservatory and with five of us in there is remained comfortable. We just took the edge off now and again with one of the blow heaters. I think it is warmer this year so far in December than it was last year. We had the woodburner lit on 5th December but at the moment I can't think we will be lighting it any day soon which is good.
I think it all got a bit messy before our neighbours went home but it was fun. I shan't inflict a bit of video of John singing Thank God its Christmas - he is not known for his singing but thinks (when he has had a vino or three) that he can!
Thank you to the CODS for such an entertaining afternoon!
