We are rather concerned because Boris, aka Mr Boo, is unwell and that is most unlike him. He isn't eating, is lethargic and has a rather rasping sound when he breathes. We know that he has a problem with his breathing at the best of times because apparently he has a hole between his two nostrils which obviously affects his inhaling and exhaling but this is different. We are not sure whether he has something stuck in his throat because he seems to be trying to cough something up or whether it is his teeth because he tries to eat and then walks away but is still hungry. We have made an appointment to take him to the vets tomorrow but our challenge before then will be to make sure he is around and catchable to take him on time. He is looking very sorry for himself today poor little mite.John was cycling today with Pete - Richard is 'indisposed' apparently and then John was going to catch up with Rob over a coffee at the Droushia Heights Hotel. I was going down to take Mum to the dentists.
The route to the dentists is via the Mesoghi Avenue road works. I am so glad that Mum wasn't driving because it ressembles something out of a war zone. Lord knows how long it will be before this road is back to something like it should be and coupled with that road works are taking place on most of the other major (and some minor) roads
in and around the city centre.
It was just a check up so afterwards Mum and I went and investigated Lidl - I had forgotten that the old Mall now reopened and called the Neon Mall of Paphos is open - there is somewhere else I can take her on one of my weekly visits to take her out and about.
I had stopped on the way to Mum's to get her cat Freddo's food from the vets. Freddo is an indoor cat and is so for his own safety because he was on a couple of occasions badly mauled by a neighbouring moggy and ended up in the vets for weeks and weeks recovering. He is a lovely boy and much happier in my company now that he is used to me. Today was warm and muggy and he was sitting by the patio door which has the fly screen so that when it is open he can at least get some fresh air. He was miffed that outside was a sassy little black kitten that was rolling around in the sunshine.
We stayed in for lunch today - I got the job of making the scrambled eggs!! I have no idea why anyone finds making scrambled eggs so difficult - I just loosely whisk a couple of eggs (literally just break the yolk and combine with the white) with some black pepper and some cream. I then cook in the microwave 20 seconds at a time and break up the 'cooked' bits until there is next to no runny eggy mix left - the egg continues to cook after you remove it from the microwave so the trick is to take it out a few seconds before it is all set. The result is fluffy and creamy scrambled eggs which Mum loves.
After lunch we tackled her latest jigsaw - another which my sister brought - it has large pieces but they are, in the main, quite a different shape to normal traditional puzzles. Mum struggles with the light and her bad back but I like to get the areas sorted for her so she can complete it when I have gone.
We had an absolutely amazing evening this evening. We finally managed to catch up with Liselotte and John at their house. They are amazing cooks and we had such a lovely meal tonight and even better brought some back with us. We had a Lebanese spiced leg of lamb and potatoes roasted in the meat juices accompanied by two really amazing salads, one a sort of Waldorf but not a Waldorf and the other which Liselotte made up which had kale and cranberries and lentils and spices and lord knows what but was absolutely delicious.
We played cards afterwards, which we always do, good natured competition with a lot of laughs and banter. It was brilliant. The whole evening was brilliant but come the end I was keen to get back to see how Mr Boo was doing. I think it is fair to say that he looked less than chipper and we were both worried. We tried to get him to come in on the bed with us which he would normally do but he wouldn't, he didn't seem to want to be messed about with and then he insisted he wanted to go out. I couldn't sleep until he came back in and then I picked him up and put him on our bed, kicked the other two out and shut the window so that he was captive, that way we knew where he would be when we needed to get him into the cat box.
